Robert Thomas "Rob" Smith, 39, passed away tragically and unexpectedly on November 18, 2021, in San Diego, California. Born on May 25, 1982, in St. Louis, Missouri, Rob lived a life full of energy, curiosity, and adventure, making homes and friends in Boston, MA; Dublin, OH; Richmond, VA; Central Florida; and most dearly, Hawaii.

Rob built a career in the restaurant and hospitality industry, managing bars and restaurants across Oahu and Central Florida. Known for his creativity and warm spirit, he had a gift for making every guest feel welcome. Whether behind the bar crafting a signature cocktail or leading a team with charisma, Rob left a lasting impression on everyone he worked with.

Hawaii was where Rob felt most at home. He embraced island life wholeheartedly-surfing and boogie boarding, night fishing for lobster under the stars, and hiking through lush trails. He loved preparing gourmet meals, bringing people together around food, and relaxing over a game of pool or darts. A true creative, Rob was also passionate about art, photography, and music, including playing the saxophone.

Rob's vibrant personality lit up every room, and his ability to forge lasting friendships stretched from Hawaii across the mainland United States. His absence leaves a profound void in the lives of those who loved him.

He is survived by his mother, Laurie Wilkinson; his sister, Aimee Tieu, her husband Ken Tieu and their children Matthew, Emma and Avery; his brother, Joshua Poore; his step-father, Jeff Poore; his grandparents, Tom and Joan Wilkinson; and many loving aunts, uncles, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Marianne Bippen Griffin; his uncle, Thomas Wilkinson; and his father, Steven Robert Smith.

Rob's family had been searching for him since November 4, 2021. His identity was confirmed through the dedication of a volunteer that works with organizations such as the Charley Project, the Doe Network, and NamUs, who matched his tattoos to records his mother had submitted. His family is deeply grateful for her efforts and compassion.
