I am glad I saw this on a Cahokia site on FB recently, but sure wish I had known at the time so I could attend the funeral. I lived in the City View subdivision right across from Flynns Market. When Dr. Snyders first opened his practice in Cahokia it was in a building next to Flynns parking lot. I was 4 years old at the time and Doc stitched me up when I fell and busted my chin open. Dad gave me a nickel for being brave. Doc eventually moved to the shopping center down by McDonald's. He was my doctor until he retired. He was a wonderful doctor to our whole family. I don't think he ever took appointments, everyone just signed in and waited for your turn. My deepest sympathy to the family. RIP DR. Synders. Thank for all your caring words and for always being there when we needed you❤

Dr Snyder's was our family physician in Cahokia. I remember him coming to our home for treatment. He never made appts. You went to his office, signed in, and waited sometimes a couple hours til our name was called. He always remembered us and was always passionate. His voice looked in the halls. He was the best example of what a physician should be.

There are so many sides of my dad, and I think that my brother Dan represented him beatifully in his Obituary, but there are sides of him at home and sides of working with him that I hope that people can see from this as well.
Dad at home - our kitchen served multiple purposes, aside from the wonderful meals cooked by my mother, it was also an urget care center and emergency room. if you had to go to the real emergency room - you really had a problem - but that happened once (from what I can remember) with the lower five kids, I cannot speak for the upper five. If it was broken, it could be fixed (mostly in the kitchen), if it was cut open, it could be sewed back together - Bob, Bill, me, Carolyn, me again - it was rough growing up there at times. That is how I got to be dad's assistant for the first time, handing him the "catgut" as he sewed together Bill's arm and Bob's leg. Even cousins were in and out when they were sick, coming through the kitchen/urgent care center. One evening Sarah and I were playing Olympics in the basement and I was Mary Lou Retton. Not taking Sarah's height into account, I bet her $5000.00 that I could jump from a very tall chair to even larger pipes to get the great the great scores that Mary Lou did - I can't remember if Andy or Carolyn was the judge. My little hands flew past the pipe and I hit the concrete floor. Dad set my dislocated shoulder and broken elbow in the kitchen holding everything in place with bandanas until we got to the hospital. Later while putting on the plaster cast, in order to make me laugh, he would lick his fingers in the bucket with the plaster in it and say "Emma, you were supposed to tell me there was plaster in there!" I was 7 years old.
Dad at work - The were multiple occasions where the girls (Ruth Ann, Carolyn, Sarah and myself) had to work over at the office, Ruth Ann did the most because she was older, but the first time that I did, what struck me the most was the the "I Owe You Dr. Snyders" box on his counter when you first walked into his office. People who could not pay would write a note and put it in there saying that they owed him whatever co-pay, or if they had no insurance, the same thing. The best part though, was going on house calls with him - I was still in high school at the time, had no idea what I wanted to do, and the most important thing I learned going on house calls was that, he did not care about if his patients could or could not pay, he just cared about his patients - it was all about his patients. Later on I realized, nursing was perfect for that, it was all about the patients. Because I went to Deaconess College of Nursing, I actually had the pleasure of taking care of some of his previous patients and even went to school with someone who he had delivered - talk about full circle.
Thank you to everyone who came to his viewing and the mass, we got to see not just family, but friends, and patients who came from a long way to pay their respects. It means so much to our family and especially to my mom. Dad, I wish you had been able to get to Montana to see where John and I are living - he loved Montana, but everytime we hear the cows from the ranch below us, and look out at the mountains, we know you are all around us. Rest in peace, I love you and will always miss you.

Bob and I worked together in recent years to advance the interests of Missouri seniors. He served as the President of the local Silver Haired Legislature and on the Board of Directors of Aging Ahead, the local Area Agency on Aging. He provided important leadership and inspired enthusiasm for the cause. In addition, he was a wonderful friend, always optimistic, interesting and entertaining. I'll miss him.

Bob was a faithful member at St. Mark and served in many capacities. The last time I spoke with him he was excited about the volunteer work he was doing. I called to visit and cheer him up during covid months, and he cheered me up!

Dr. Snyders was our family physician for many, many years. As a teenager in the early 1960s, I remember sharing with him my love of mathematics and science and of him then encouraging me to pursue a medical career. While I never went that career route, I did find his counsel inspiring and ended up an environmental engineer.
Another time, when I was in college at SIUE, I badly sprained my ankle while playing basketball. The ankle swelled to twice its normal size and the pain was intense. My mom took me to the emergency room where x-rays were negative but the pain continued. The emergency room staff wouldn't give me any pain killers since they said I didn't need, as there was no break. However, my mom called Dr. Snyders and explained what I was going through. He got on the phone with their staff and before you know, I had a shot of pain killer which helped me made it through the night. The next day, Dr. Snyders checked out the injury and said that, while badly damaged, the ankle would heal on its own and put me in a cast for a few weeks. He was right, I haven't had any problems with that ankle since.

Dr. Snyders was the best! He took care of my family in Cahokia and treated countless sore throats, ear infections, stitches, school physials and shots.... I knew he cared deeply for us, and he always helped us to be well. Families of this area were so blessed to have him! He literally saved my mother life in 1976, and I can't put into words how grateful I am to him! My deepest sympathies to his family, thank you for sharing him with us. I will pray for all of you and I am thankful to God for his healing hands!

I'm sure I will never meet another one like Doc Snyders. Interesting, funny, inquisitive, a brilliant story teller...the list goes on and on. We had a cardiac connection. He was always curious what was going on with me and I tried to stay on top of his numerous inventions. With Marilyn at his side, Doc lead a full life that I admire and envy. Rest in peace, Doc.

My condolences to the Snyders family. Dr Snyders was our family Doctor in Cahokia until he retired. He was a wonderful and caring Doctor. My mother used to make candy and cookies every Christmas and take them to his office in Cahokia until she passed in 1991. I worked at memorial hospital for 35 years and Dr Snyders saw me at the hospital after she passed and expressed his condolences. I will always remember that. RIP Dr Snyders!

The best doctor we ever had. He was an amazing man and doctor and served many low income families. The world was a better place with him and I wish we had more like him.

Dr. Snyder was our family doctor in Cahokia. I would be scared waiting in the office because I knew I was getting a shot! I can remember hearing him walking down the hall whistling. He would come in and say Hello sis and be so calming. He was such a great doctor and even greater man. Prayers for the family.

It was always a pleasure getting together at the various homes of the family and was glad to have dinner with them along with Robert, Lisa, Billy and my wife Debbie. Doc always kept us on our toes and in stiches with all his stories. He was definitely one of a kind!

I worked in the OR at Memorial Hospital in Belleville for 38 years. I had the pleasure of working side by side with Dr. Snyder as he assisted numerous surgeons. I was impressed at the thinking abilities he had. He was so smart for his own good!!! He truly was a genius and outstanding in his field!!! I always got a kick out of his long John´s he would wear from the first day of winter until spring!!! Lol. There are only a few in our society that walk under the radar of genius and generosity and he was one of them. RIP my friend and I know he is in heaven showing God his skills!!! Russ Klein
