Robert Sodi Obituary

Robert "Bob" Carl Sodi

July 1, 1944 - May 22, 2025

Robert "Bob" Carl Sodi, 80, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2025. Born on July 1, 1944, in Wilmington, North Carolina, Bob spent most of his life in Florida, where he built a legacy of service, family, and adventure.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Pam Sodi; daughter Brenda Kappes (husband Rich); son Brian Sodi (wife Brandi); grandchildren Alex, Corey, and Holly from Brenda; grandchildren Grace, Landon, and Joby from Brian; and great-grandson Max, son of Alex. Bob also leaves behind his beloved sister Lorraine Spanola (husband Joe) and his cherished cats, Abbie and Zoey.

A graduate of Dixie Hollins High School in St. Petersburg, Bob went on to serve his country with honor in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1965 to 1967. His military service instilled in him a lifelong sense of duty and camaraderie.

Bob dedicated over 30 years to GTE Telecom, starting as a lineman repairing telephone lines and rising through the ranks to top management. His expertise led him to consult on major events such as the Super Bowl, Pro Bowl, Miss America Pageant, and the NCAA Final Four. After retiring from GTE, Bob went on to have a very successful career as a Realtor. After 15 years, Bob celebrated his final retirement.

In April 2001, Bob married the love of his life, Pam, and together they embraced a life full of adventure. Their shared passion for travel took them across the country on Bob's beloved Harley-Davidson, attending events like Sturgis, Rolling Thunder in Washington, D.C., and Daytona Beach's Bike Week. They also cherished their trips to Maui, where they hiked and explored the island's natural beauty. Closer to home, they enjoyed kayaking and hiking through Florida's state parks and rivers.

Bob was an active member of his local Harley Owners Group and participated in numerous fundraising rides, including the annual Toy Run in Pinellas County every December, supporting children in need.

Bob's life will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 18, 2025. A military service will be held at 2:30 PM at Bay Pines National Cemetery, 10000 Bay Pines Boulevard North, St. Petersburg, FL 33708. Following the service, a Celebration of Life will take place at 3:30 PM at War Veterans' Memorial Park, Pavilion 4, 9600 Bay Pines Boulevard, St. Petersburg, FL 33708. Because of Bob's deep love for Hawaii and the beach, guests are encouraged to dress casually in Hawaiian shirts or beach-style attire.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to local veterans' organizations or animal shelters in Bob's memory.

Bob will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his adventurous spirit, and his generous heart. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Dennis and Charlotte Hughes spent 23 years in St. Pete and shared rides, dinners, and activities with Bob and Pam (and their bikes). It was a grand time in all our lives. Retired yet healthy and active. May Pam continue to find strength in her friendships and may Bob let us know how things are up there!

When we moved to FL. 5 years ago we joined the local harley group and met Bob and Pam right away.
Bob was always there with his wonderful smile.
Bob and Pam would open there house every year for a white elephant gift exchange Christmas party, which was always such a fun night.
Our club will not be the same without him.
Bob will be missed beyond measure.
Ride with the angels my friend, until we meet again.
God bless Pam and family.

I was truly fortunate to have a father-in-law who was both loved and respected by everyone who knew him. Bob´s caring nature, sharp wit, and steady presence brought so much joy to our family. I´ll especially miss the loving zingers we would trade during holidays and special gatherings - they always made those moments fun and unforgettable. He leaves behind a legacy of laughter, love, strength, and tradition that will always stay with us.

Dad,
You were there for me through every stage of life - holding my hand as a little girl, guiding me through my teenage years, and beaming with pride as I became a mother.

My heart aches everyday. I miss you and love you.

Grandpa Bob, where do I even begin?
I´ve cherished every holiday and family dinner we shared. You were always cracking witty jokes and telling me stories from your past. I´ve learned so much from you, and you helped shape me into the person I am today.

One of my favorite memories is going to the beach at the crack of dawn for a workout with you and Dad.

Grandpa Bob, rest in peace. I love you so much

Wow, what is there to say about my grandfather. He has touched so many lives and I am beyond grateful for the time I knew him. He was gracious and humble and always knew how to make a room laugh. He was a great grandfather and an even better man. We love you Grandpa Bob now and forever.

I couldn´t have asked for a better brother-in-law. The fishing trips with you and Pam and our Wednesday nights where you came for dinner and Pam and I got to share our dinnertime together as we shared our favorite movies will always be a special memory.
Your absence will leave an empty spot in our heart.

Always the first to crack a joke, and the most gregarious personality on a grandparent´s day at school, Grandpa Bob never failed to shine his light on all who knew him.

He was such a strong and steadfast figure in my childhood and life, and I´ll always cherish my memories with him. Gone but never forgotten, and always beloved.

Bob was an amazing father, husband, brother, grandfather, and father-in-law. My heart is filled with gratitude for all of the blessed times we all shared together as a family. Digging sand holes and castles, staying up late to help Santa get ready for Christmas morning, helping us move from home to home, teaching us the art of washing a car, and being a breakfast and grill master. Bob and Pam together! A forever team! Bob was always loving, kind, and complimentary with his words. Always just so happy to share time with his family and grandchildren. Bob was lovingly adored by all and devoted to his family. We will miss you so much, but know that your bright smile, and joyful sense of humor will surround us and comfort us always. We love you forever.

Pam, we are so sorry for your loss. Bob was a terrific neighbor and a really good friend. We will miss our chats as he washed his bike and his truck. Any time we were doing anything around the house, Bob always offered his help. We will always remember our trip to Alaska with you both and how much fun we had. Bob really loved the outdoors. We will miss him dearly.

My sail with the pirate was a tonic, I wouldn't have missed it for anything. He was a Cheshire cat sort of collaborator, with a vexing way of appearing and disappearing unpredictably at long intervals; but when melting away, he always left behind a beguiling smile and so much more.

My love to Pam and family for the gift you all shared and the sad loss of knowing that going forward it will only be the fond memories.

I am very saddened to learn of Bob's passing. He was an extraordinary man. I felt honored to attend Bob and Pam's wedding many years ago. Their love story was exceptional. I'm so glad they found each other and had so many adventures together. He will definitely be missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to Pam and the entire family.
