Robert Stockton Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 15, 2024.
Robert Glenn Stockton, known affectionately as Glenn, passed away on July 1, 2024, in Orlando, Florida at the age of 84. Born in Greenville, South Carolina, he later made significant contributions both in military service and civilian roles.

Glenn graduated from Boone High School in Orlando in 1957 and pursued further education at Stetson, University of Georgia, Naval Postgraduate School, and Princeton University. His academic pursuits laid a strong foundation for his notable military career. Serving as a Major in the US Army Ordnance Corps from 1961 to 1971, he was a proud Vietnam veteran and was honored with the Bronze Star for his commendable service.

After his military tenure, Glenn transitioned to a civilian role as a military analyst for the Department of Defense from 1972 until his retirement in 1994. His dedication and humanitarian efforts were recognized with the Civilian Award for Humanitarian Service by the Department of the Army.

Beyond his professional life, Glenn was an avid cyclist and a passionate singer. Despite suffering a massive stroke in 2007, he remarkably bicycled more than 50,000 miles. He was also a long-time member of a barbershop chorus and quartet, with his group, the "Sunshine Boys," winning the Florida Senior State Championship.

Glenn is survived by his wife of 63 years, Betty Jo, and their children, Betsy of Orlando and Greg of Pittsburgh, PA. He was a proud grandfather to Lis, James, and David. He is also survived by his brother, Bill, and niece, Jess. Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Mary Stockton, and other beloved family members.

A private service will be held for family members. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans or Tunnels to Towers. Arrangements are being handled by Dobbs Funeral Home in Orlando, FL. Glenn's legacy of service, both in his professional and personal life, will be remembered by all who knew him.
