My wife and I were patients of Dr. Stokes for almost 30 years. He was always available to us. His care and concern for our welfare were always appreciated. We last visited with Dr. Stokes in December 2015. We had heard of his ailment and told him that there was at least one family who loved him and was praying for him. He got a puzzled look on his face and said, "Who is that?" When I indicated to my wife and me, he got a surprised look on his face and teared up. He stepped around his desk and hugged us both. It was almost like he was surprised that someone could just love him for his being him. He was loved and is still missed to this day. Unfortunately, my wife also passed away due to pancreatic cancer, also. Hopefully, they have met in heaven and are telling jokes about this crazy person left behind down here. Dr. Stokes was truly one of a kind. My sincerest condolences to his wife and family on the up-coming 10th anniversary of his passing.

Still seems like yesterday that I received the phone call that Dr Stokes was no longer with us...I was in shock then, and can´t believe that it has been 5 years that he has been gone. In my business life every day, there are memories of Dr Stokes, and they are very fond memories of what and how he would do stuff. He was such a gentle man and a pleasure to work for, such a caring individual...he will forever be missed

I still miss Dr. Stokes. When we lost him, we lost an excellent doctor who also felt like a good friend....probably because my family and I had been under his care for many years. I can't imagine the great loss his wife and family must feel. If there is a heaven, I know that he is there. Please pray for all of us, Dr. Stokes.

Dr. Stokes was my first employer and practice partner after graduating from family medicine residency. He welcomed me with open arms into his practice, and taught me a lot about medicine and running a practice in the 2 1/2 years we practiced together. I have fond memories of my time spent at Parkville Family Practice with Dr. Stokes, and was saddened to hear of his passing recently from one of his patients. I will never forget his sense of humor, his beautiful historic home, his love of history, and his dedication to his patients. My prayers are with his wife, Cindy, who must miss him terribly. You could tell he loved her very much.

In remembering Dr. "Bob" Stokes and wishing comfort to Cindy and the family, he was both a gifted physician and dear friend over the years.
Dr. Bob's sense of humor and stories behind his unique character ties will be missed. Dr. Bob was thorough and caring as a physician and could figure out solutions to just about anything.

There are no words strong or beautiful enough to properly describe this man! Dr. Stokes is the only family doctor I've ever known in my 24 years- he was so very good to our entire family.
Dr. Stokes gave me my first shots, set my broken wrist, and helped me overcome issues from anxiety to altitude sickness. He was such an exceptional man and Doctor- someone I completely trusted with any/all details pertaining to my health and well-being.
I remember him talking me through my first encounter with anxiety and depression during middle school. He said to me, "Katie- you're such a smart girl. The most intelligent people almost always go through something like this. Chin up."
I will miss him dearly- and I can only HOPE to find a Doctor like him for my family one day.

Dr. Stokes was our family doctor for more than two decades, and we are so grateful that he graced our lives. Dr. Stokes was caring, gentlemanly, brilliant and humble. Such a gentle hand and kind face. He took such good care of us. My husband comes from a small town, and said he thought of Dr. Stokes as a country physician in all the best sense of the phrase. I recall how he recognized us late at night at NKC Hospital; my mother had undergone major heart surgery and was just wheeled into ICU. He went in to chat with her team, and came out to explain her condition fully and reassure us. We didn't ask him; he just did so. We will cherish his memory, and thank his family for sharing such a wonderful man with us all. We hold you in our hearts. Pamela Miller & Michael Cummings

A kind and genuinely caring doctor, best describes this wonderfully witty man. So blessed I found him, when I moved to the KC area.
He was the one who ended my years of pain and helped me through the worst time of my life.
First he would take care of business then food, wine and house talk. Ending with a hug. Wish I had know it would be my last.
What an honor to have known him. Peace and love Doc!

Dr. Stokes was an awesome man. I'll miss him dearly. He was definitely one of a kind.
To his wife:
I know how it is to lose a husband. My husband died almost two yrs ago. Dr. Stokes was very sensitive to my pain. The loss of a husband, best friend, love of your life is hard to fathom, but may God's strength and comfort help guide you as you grieve- that's what pulled me through (God's love).
To his children:
I also know how it is to lose a father- I walked down that road 12 yrs ago. Just know that his words of wisdom will always be with you. And may God give you peace that passes all understanding as you grieve your father.
I do know one thing. Weeping endures for a night, but joy comes in the morning. (Psalm 30:5). Even if JOY doesn't come in the morning. IT (JOY) WILL COME AGAIN ONE DAY.
God Bless

30 years ago Dr. Stokes and I were young men.
I have been a patient of his for that long.
on one of my latest visits to his office he explained why he would never retire.
I always thought how wonderful it must be to love what you do so dearly that nothing else could be better.
I always admired him.
I will surely miss him.
Sure, I can see another doctor. But I don't expect to ever again find a "Dr. Stokes".
May you rest in peace.

During our many years in Kansas City, Robert and Cindy became very close friends. I first met them both when they were working at Dr. Hall's clinic near the TWA overhaul base. I retained him to have oversight of the paramedics at the base and he was a great mentor and leader to them. Denise and I often joined them for social and charitable events and the occasional private dinner at their beautiful historic home. When we moved away in 1998, we didn't see them anymore but they were always in our hearts and minds. Our sincerest condolences to Cindy and family.

I remember so much about Dr Stokes , I was one of the nurses who worked with him back in the 80's at the Parkville location and let me tell you I learned so much from this man as I'm sure many of us did. I remember he would book 4 patients for each 15 minute block then escape out the back door and go get yogurt at TCBY and come waltzing back in the door with his TCBY before a lot of them ever knew he was gone. He was a great teacher of medicine and loved to teach you how to do the job the way HE wanted it done. He was much softer then he wanted you to know but you had to get to know him very well before you figured that out. My whole family ended up being his patients because he was a doctor that you could trust with your life. during several of our office visits he would always ask how my sons were doing as they both were injured in Iraq pretty bad but he always made a point to ask first off how they were and if there was anything he could do . During a visit with him years back we were talking and discussing the fact that I had opened my own home care business he gave me this huge ready bear hug and said with a smile " If anyone could do it you can , your a very strong nurse with great ethics , it does not surprise me one bit" . Dr Stokes you will be missed more than you know- you have impacted so many peoples lives with your knowledge, demand for excellence, and your caring touch. I myself can admit I learned so much from you working side by side in that office during that time. KC won't be the same without you. The medical community won't be the same, My prayers go out to Cindy and the entire family for God to guide you and comfort you during this very difficult journey.
