Robert Bruce Swanson

Robert Bruce Swanson, also known as Bob, passed away on October 24, 2023, at the age of 83 in Clermont, Florida. Born on January 21, 1940, in Jamestown, New York, Bob was a man of strong Christian faith. He was an honest, principled man who dedicated his life to his beloved family. Bob's gentle and kind-hearted nature made him a true friend to those around him. His unwavering love and devotion to his family served as a shining example of what a good husband and father should be. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished by his loved ones until they are reunited in Heaven.

Bob received his education from Southwestern Central High School in Jamestown, New York, and later pursued higher education at the State University of New York in Jamestown.

Throughout his career, Bob was known for his hard work and dedication. In 1962, he married his adoring wife, Mary Kathryn Illig, and they enjoyed 61 years of marriage together. Bob's professional journey began in 1968 when he joined Greyhound Bus Company as a Commissioned Sales Agent and Owner/Operator. He then transitioned to Purolator Courier Corporation, where he excelled in sales and management, eventually becoming the Director of National Accounts. Later, Bob joined the Tropical Shipping Company in Palm Beach, Florida, as the Southeast National Accounts Executive. His role allowed him to travel extensively throughout the Caribbean, creating lasting friendships along the way. Bob's dedication and success in sales earned him numerous achievement awards throughout his career.

Bob found solace and strength in his faith, and he worshipped at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Clermont, Florida.

Outside of his professional life, Bob's greatest joy came from spending time with his family. He and his loving wife, Mary, often embarked on weekend drives, exploring new and exciting places together. Bob had a passion for discovering new dining destinations and enjoyed playing golf and investing in the stock market.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Kathryn Illig Swanson; 2 sons, Gregory Bruce Swanson and Mark Andrew Swanson and his wife Janet Margaret Silson Swanson; 2 grandchildren, Megan Ashley Swanson, and John Peter Robert Swanson; and his stepsister Gloria Schmonsky.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert G. Swanson, mother Ruth M Swanson Rosendahl; and stepfather, Edwin Rosendahl.

A private Funeral Mass will be held later to honor and remember Bob's life.
