A Celebration of Robert Bob Phillip Tayman's life will be held on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at 10 a.m. at the Faith Lutheran Church located at 123 Park Lane, Moorpark, Ca where Pastor Robert Hiller will be officiating.
Bob was born at the Gallinger Hospital in Washington DC on September 6, 1937 to William Sr. and Dorothy (Regan) Tayman. Being brought up in a strict Catholic home, Bob hardly ever got out of line, or misbehaved. Bob attended Catholic Schools, graduating from the 8th Grade from Holy Name School in 1951, then attending Chamberlain Vocational High School in Washington DC. Growing up, Bob and his siblings, had a very strict upbringing, Bob spent most of his childhood free time playing ball with his older brother Bill, and keeping a close relationship with all three of his sisters. Bob also kept very active in sports, and sports became his passion throughout his life.
After graduating High School in 1955, Bob joined the United States Navy in August of 1955. Bob Spent two in a half years of active duty, first being stationed at the US Naval Air station in Argentia, Newfoundland. He progressed to the rank of Airman, where he excelled as a member of the Crash and Rescue Crew. Bob later was assigned to a FAETULANT ( a Fleet Airborne Electronics Training Unit in the Atlantic) at the Naval Air Station in Norfolk, Virginia. After serving time in Norfolk, Bob received his honorable discharge from the US Navy in January 1958, and he completed his remaining three years of service in the reserves.
With his strict Catholic upbringing, and his time in service, Bob grew up to be a very independent man and a dedicated Father. He was a hard worker, and very athletic. Bob had a dry sense of humor that we could only love. After moving to Southern California in 1966, he and his daughter Vikki moved to the Ventura County area in 1976. He worked many years as a Chief Engineer and in 1983 he became the Building Operations Supervisor for Texaco Corporation in Universal City, where he retired in 1995. Bob, aka Wheels spent all of his adult free time involved with sports. Playing and traveling with the Classic Longballers Softball Team, umpiring and refereeing for the Conejo Valley Park and Rec, as well as serving on the Conejo Valley Sports Advisory Counsil from 1986 - 1988, where members volunteer their time to improve the community sports program. Not only was Bob a sports enthusiast, he was a lifelong Pool Shark. As a member of the APA (American Pool Players Association) he participated in over 5000 league matches. His team won numerous league and division championships and in 2002 his team reached the 8 Ball National Championship Match in Las Vegas.
Bob is survived by children Cheryl Williamson (Gordon), Catherine Velazquez, Robert P. Tayman, Jr. (Edna), and Victoria Schweigert (Greg); Grandchildren Miguel Velazquez, Sebastian Burnham, and Savanah Schweigert; Brother William A. Tayman, Jr.; and Sisters Diane DiMichele, Carole Wright, and Phyllis Chisholm. Bob will be loved by many, missed by a lot, but will never be forgotten. His memory and legacy will live on in all of us for generations to come.

Bobby, we sure did fight as kids, but remember how we became close friends in our late teens and throughout our lives. We may have been far apart in miles but NEVER in our hearts. You are in my daily prayers for God's blessings and peace.
You will always be in my heart..from your LOVING SISTER, DOLLY

To a GREAT friend.
As I look back at our friendship I see the valued and meaningful life lessons you taught me. First and foremost I see the father that you were. How much you loved Vikki. How devoted of a father you were to her and later a devoted grandfather.
I see my friend, friend to so many. You lived life to the fullest and touched so many people. You could be counted on and depended on always. I know that they too will miss your friendship you brought into their lives.
I’m thankful for your friendship, for trusting and believing in me. So much so that you changed my career path. One of the best decisions of my life and I owe that to you.
It’s very hard to say goodbye and I don't want to, but I will remember the many lives you touched so positively. Especially mine. Now that you’ve left this world for a better place. I have memories of our friendship that I will always be grateful to have, hold onto and always carry with me.
Eight ball corner pocket. Rack um.
Rest in Peace my friend and I’ll see you again soon.

Dear Vikki, I am so sorry for your loss your dad was awesome. I have so many memories of "dad" as we all called him during our high school years. He was an amazing man who had a really hard time telling us no! He always wanted us to be happy, from taking us skating, to the movies, to dinner or clothes shopping he always had a smile on his face just to see us happy. Always talking about the next pool match that we could never attend and being so happy with life. I will miss him very much yet the image of him sitting behind the wheel of his Trans AM with that big smile on his face will always bring a smile to mine. I love Kiddo hang in there. XOXO

Bob was a great friend, father, grandpa, and father-in-law. He was always kind and giving of himself to his family and friends. I truly wish I had the opportunity to know him earlier in life but I am forever grateful for the time I spent with him. I have never met anyone who had an unkind word to say about Bob. I know he is with God now but I love and miss him a lot. I will see you again someday.
