Robert "Bob" Thomson Sr., 70, of Whiteland, passed away Sunday, October 4, 2020, with his wife and sister by his side. He was born on January 1, 1950, in Indianapolis, Indiana to Harold & Christine Thomson. After graduating from Southport High School, Bob joined the telecommunications industry with formerly known Indiana Bell and worked his way through many organizational changes. Many memorable occupational experiences included installing phone lines in the RCA Dome, Market Square Arena, many sheriff's departments and jails, and even for a presidential visit to the city. After retiring, Bob learned to woodwork, loved to be outside, and enjoyed watching his grandkids grow and participate in their activities. He was a lover of fishing and a life member of the Bass Anglers Sportsman Society. Throughout his life, he was involved in many community events and activities. These ranged from coaching his children's sporting events, running the Hanna Haunted House, and announcing the Johnson County Demolition Derby. Bob was an avid Indiana basketball fan (who may have been obsessed with Bobby Knight) and enjoyed also the Indianapolis Colts. Bob was a Past Master of the Greenwood Lodge #514 and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star #390. He was also a member of the Indiana JCI Senate #94 No. 42276, past President and member of the Southport Jaycees, and Colonel #31 in the Indiana Hoosier Corps. A past Nobel of the Murat Temple, The Gatling Gun Club, and Johnson County Shrine Club. He was a past member of the Greenwood York Rite and the Valley of Indianapolis Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite. Bob was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Janet L. Thomson of Whiteland; his sister, Linda (Rick) Cripe of Osceola; his son, Rob (Chrissy) Thomson, Jr of Greenwood; daughter, Deanna (Keith) Hatfield of Greenwood; stepdaughter, Julie (Nate) Lyon of Whiteland; and stepson Jay Whetsel of Whiteland; his eight grandchildren, Kellen and Kyler Thomson; KJ, Kinsley and Madison Hatfield; Logan and Carson Bryk, and Coyne Lyon; as well as eight nieces and nephews, nine great-nieces and great-nephews and one great-great-niece. Along with many cousins, co-workers, and dear friends. A visitation will be held Friday, October 9, 2020, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service & Crematory, Greenwood Chapel 481 West Main Street in Greenwood. An Eastern Star and Masonic service will take place at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest, during a private family ceremony, in the Masonic Gardens within the temple at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. Due to recent COVID-19 mandates, all guests are required to wear face coverings or masks at visitations and services.
