Robert "Tab" Tolbert Sr.

TOLBERT, Robert D. Sr. M.D. "Tab" 77, of Tampa, formerly of Vincennes, IN died on Monday, Jan. 4, 2009. He was born on Jan. 11, 1932, in Winchester, KY. Tab lived in Tampa for over 45 years. He was a wonderful husband, loving father and grandfather and will be forever missed by all who knew him. Tab graduated from Vincennes Lincoln High School and played football, basketball, and track. He attended DePauw University to play football, and subsequently graduated from Indiana University School of Medicine in 1958. He completed his internship at Tampa General Hospital in 1959. After serving as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy at Camp LeJuene, NC, he practiced general medicine in Vincennes before moving to Tampa in 1964. He was part owner and founder of Professional Medical Services of Tampa and retired in 1987. He was a member of the Masonic Order, Inc. and a member of Delta Chi Fraternity and Bayshore Baptist Church. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Mrs. Barbara Axe Tolbert; son Robert D. (Chip) Tolbert, Jr., daughter-in-law Louan, son Chris Tolbert, daughter-in-law Cindy, son Terry Tolbert, daughter-in-law Jennifer; grand-children Tyler, Scott, Wesley, Todd, T.J. and Katie, brother-in-law Richard Hutchison, brother in-law and sister-in-law John W. and Loretta C. Axe, sister-in-law Margaret Siek; cousins Barbara (Tolbert) Miley, Joan (Tolbert) Parmenter; nieces Beth Siek, Ann (Hutchison) Donovan, and Susan (Hutchison) Ahlbrand, and nephews Steve Axe, George Siek, Daniel Siek, Pat Hutchison, and Tim Hutchison. He was proceeded in death by his father, Clarence Burnell Tolbert, mother Josephine Mefford Tolbert, and sister Claudia Tolbert Hutchison. The family will receive friends from 2-3 pm, prior to the funeral service at 3 pm on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010, at Bayshore Baptist Church, 3111 W. Morrison Avenue, Tampa.
