Robert Tongue Obituary

Robert C. Tongue, 80, Bradenton, died Feb. 3, 2004. He was born May 16, 1923, in Newark, N.J., and came to Manatee County in 1966 from Lafayette, Ind. He was a professor of Military Science at Purdue University and retired in 1986 after 20 years as a professor at Manatee Junior College. He was a 1945 graduate of West Point. He was a member of American Legion Kirby Stewart Post No. 24 in Bradenton. He retired as a lieutenant colonel after 22 years in the Army and served in the Korean War and Vietnam. Survivors include his wife, Toni; daughters Lisa and Mara, both of San Francisco and Augusta Nanney of Bradenton; and one grandson. No visitation is scheduled. The services will be later in Arlington National Cemetery. Brown and Sons Funeral Home, 43rd Street Chapel, is in charge. Memorial donations may be made to Bradenton Hospice House, c/o Hospice of Southwest Florida, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238.
