Robert Vermillion Obituary

PEORIA - Robert Edward Vermillion, 78, of Peoria passed away at 10:45 p.m. Monday, May 14, 2007, at his residence.

Born Dec. 7, 1928, in Gifford, Ill., to Lyle E. and Catherine (Cain) Vermillion, he married Kathryn Taylor at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Peoria on Aug. 29, 1953. She survives.

Also surviving are three daughters, Patti (Russ) Foster of Peoria, Bobbi (Brian) Soule of Germantown Hills and Diana (Terry) Young of Glasford; two sons, Chuck (Julie) Vermillion of Peoria and David (Teri) Vermillion of Yates City; nine grandchildren, Tera (Justin) Sprout, Lukas Young, Dane and Keli Foster, Sara and Taylor Vermillion, Nathan and Ben Vermillion and Kelcey Soule; one great-grandchild, Logan Sprout; and three sisters, Betty Kunkel of Springfield, Marilyn (Tom) Marlott of Peoria and Sylvia (Pete) Micca of Eureka.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Donna Rae Jones.

Robert worked over 35 years as an iron worker for Local 112, retiring in 1992. He last worked for the Peoria Park District and Peoria Civic Center.

He was a Korean War Army veteran and a member of Limestone American Legion Post 979 and VFW Post 3883 in Bartonville.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, where a funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 18, 2007. Father Bert Heise will officiate. Visitation will be one half hour prior to services at the church and from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel with rosary beginning at 7:30 p.m. Burial will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens.

Memorials may be made to St. Joseph's Catholic Church or OSF Hospice of Peoria.
