Robert William "Jerry" Walker, 98, of Wabash, Indiana, died at 11:43 am, Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2022, at Wellbrooke of Wabash. He was born on April 15, 1924, in Macy, Indiana, to Charles and May Blanche (Murphy) Walker.
Robert was a 1942 graduate of Chili High School, and was a WW II U.S. Navy veteran. He married Ruby M. (Robins) Harshman, in Miami County on July 31, 1946, and she died on April 3, 2022. He retired from General Tire in Wabash in 1982 after more than 35 years. Robert attended Wabash First United Methodist Church and was a member of the Wabash American Legion Post 15 and V.F.W. Post 286. Robert enjoyed golfing, fishing, and gardening. He was an avid IU basketball and Chicago Cubs baseball fan. He and his wife Ruby wintered in Homosassa, Florida for 30 years.
He is survived by four children, Judy Harshman Kimbrough of Augusta, Georgia, Jerry Walker of Lakeside Marblehead, Ohio, Rosetta (Jim) Hamilton of Goshen, Indiana, and Loretta (Mike) Cornwell of Wabash, eight grandchildren, Jerry J. (Debbie) Walker, Christopher Walker, Amy (Andy) Lewman, Erin (Bill) Baginski, Andrew Hamilton, Emily (Matthew) Roussell, Shelley (Dan) Mullas, and James (Andi) Kimbrough, 14 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson. He was also preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and six sisters.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am, Saturday, Sept. 24, 2022, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, with Chaplain Magi Wehner officiating. Burial will be in Chili Cemetery, Denver. Friends may call 9:30 – 11:00 am, Saturday at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are Wabash V.F.W. Post 286 or Wabash American Legion Post 15.
