Robert F. Whitley, 75, of Terre Haute, died at 1:08 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, 2008, in Seton Specialty Hospital in Indianapolis, with his family by his side. He was born on Nov. 9, 1932, in Norfolk, Va., to James Whitley and Alice Womble Whitley. He was a retired chemical engineer with Hercules. Survivors included his wife, Kay Alexandra Whitley, whom he married in 1959; son, John Scott Whitley (Dianna) of Terre Haute; daughter, Deanne Norris (Chris) of Carlisle; brother, James Whitley, Petersburg, Va.; sisters, Jean Wyche of Mason, Ga., and Mary Louise Everton, Chesapeake, Va.; grandchildren, Justin Whitley, Jeremy Whitley, Katie Whitley and Isabella Norris; and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Elizabeth Brennan.He was a U.S. Army veteran and graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute. He was a member of Seelyville United Methodist and Humboldt Lodge 42 Free and Accepted Mason.Funeral services are 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2008, in DeBaun Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Drive, in Terre Haute, with the Rev. Steve Bahrt officiating. Burial is in Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Visitation is noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.

I will always remember Bob's bird paintings! I always enjoyed watching him paint and then having him show me the finished product. Bob was a kind, gentle man and I will miss him. My thoughts and prayers are with all of his family at this time and in the times to come.
