Bobbo-
I will miss your stories, your smile, and the time you always had for me growing up. Thank you for sharing your love of family and our great game of baseball. There is a special piece of you in everyone you leave behind. You will always be missed. Save some good stories for me. I love you Bobbo.

Beth, I'm so very sorry for the loss that you and your family are feeling now. I hope that you'll all find comfort in each other and in the expressions of sympathy and the wonderful memories that so many people will be sharing with you. Your dad was a special man, and you and Terry and your boys had a very special relationship with him. I know you'll always feel him with you. God bless you and comfort you. I'll be keeping you and your mom and the rest of the family in my thoughts and prayers!
Love, Marlene

Betty Lou and Family,
Even though my connection to the Oneonta Star and Bob are many decades in the past it is hard to image the world without Whitt. It seems everything in his life was done with energy, humor and always gentlemanly charm. I spent about five years at "The Star" in the mid-60s and I was a "wet behind the ears" journalist. Whitt always had time to answer questions or discuss points of view beyond the "Five Ws" of newswriting.
And I remember with gratitude the caring attention of both of you when my Mother passed away in 1967.
He liked to be knee-deep in the causes he believed in and loved and for that Oneontans will miss him greatly.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and Brian, Barb and Beth and their families

I'll try to summon a few words for a very special man although I am sure they will be inadequate.
Bob gave me a good foundation for a 30-year career as a newspaper reporter. In our five years together at The Star, Bob and I had times together that now are the memories that sustain me. I'll share one.
One beautiful spring day in the early 1970s he and I stood next to the dugout at Damashke Field, smoking our Dutch Masters Panatelas, as that year's new crop of O-Yanks filed in for a workout with the beloved George Case.
Bob turned to me and said, "Ya know, it doesn't get any better than this."
I've seen quite a bit and met a lot of people since then. I know now that he was right!! I thank him for letting me be a part of it.
I guess it is fitting we all say goodbye to Bob on a day when the whole world will be watching soccer - a sport he did so much for in Oneonta and beyond!!
So on Sunday I'll share a cool one with my friend and say "thanks for making me a better man."

Dad, When the Twins win who can I tell now? When I accomplish something of which I am proud who can I tell now? When I read a good book who can I share it with now? When I need to talk to my Dad who can I talk with now? I think.....I will just keep talking with you. Love, Brian

Bob was a very positive influence on people and institutions involved in all sport here in Central NYS; way beyond his work as a sports writer. He was a great guy!

I'll always associate Oneonta and the Oneonta Daily Star with Bob Whittemore. Sadly, another living part of my growing-up days in Oneonta has passed.
