Robert O "Bob" Wingeard

Robert "Bob" O. Wingeard, 84, passed away on November 30, 2023, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was a resident of the Black Forest.

Bob was born on January 4, 1939, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He attended Purdue University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics. He attended graduate school at Ohio State and North Carolina University.

Bob dedicated 30 years of his career as a civilian at Air Defense Command/NORAD in Colorado Springs. His contributions and dedication to his work were greatly appreciated by his colleagues.

Outside of his professional life, Bob had a passion for playing bridge. He was an active member of the American Contract Bridge League since 1966. Bob served as a Unit Board member for six decades and held positions on the District 17 Board, Western Conference Board, and the National Board. He was one of the founding members of Unit 360, instrumental in building the bridge center in Colorado Springs, which has been the home for Unit 360 since its completion in the mid-1970s.

He cherished his relationships with his family members and friends. He is well loved and survived by his brothers, Irvin (Barbara) and Doug (Nancy). Bob is also survived by his nieces and nephews Marianne (Daniel), Laura (Dhafer), Keith (Kaye), Wendy (Scott), Eric (Arden) He was preceded in death by his partner of 44 years, Walter Kessel, as well as his father, Irvin Wingeard Sr., and mother, Mary Murphy Wingeard. Bob is also survived by 6 grand nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held in early 2024 to celebrate Bob's life and honor his memory. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Human Rights Campaign or the Unit 360 Bridge Center in Colorado Springs.
