Robert William "Bo" Winn Jr.

My favorite memory of Bo is the day he and Carol met me for lunch at a little Greek place on Cloverdale. He was perceptive, decisive, and kind. I so appreciated that. Rich and I had our children, a boy and a girl at the same time period as Bo and Carol. That, and some similar spiritual experiences, helped to create a love for both of them. We admired him for all that he accomplished. I am also thinking of Carol now. May you know the Lord's presence as you have in times past.

We met Bo 29 years ago,and until our move back to upstate NY 20 years ago we still would keep in touch with him and Carol when we would visit North Carolina, where my wife's parents moved also. Although we didn't have as much contact with Bo we still remember his many accomplishments, computers, flying, music. I feel deeply sadden about his passing, but I do remember his passion to serve the Lord. We will miss you.

Bo was the best pilot I ever taught how to fly. I know the wind is at his back

I was greatly saddened to hear of Bo's passing. I met him a handful of years ago in a business context (he brought our small nonprofit agency into the world of computer networks). When learning that our agency was a nonprofit service agency, Bo promptly reduced his fees, often never even billing us for hours of service. Knowing Bo only in a professional context, however, I could tell he was compassionate, smart, had a great sense of humor, and was profoundly spiritual.

My deepest sympathies go to his wife and children. Please know that Bo lives on in all the lives he touched and brightened with his presence.

To the Winn Family,

I got to know Bo through his son Joey who has been coming to my office for massage therapy several years now. Joey would get his dad gift certificates for his birthday or Father’s Day to share with him what he had found to be of value. It was funny at first because Bo would hold on to them like they where gold and to only be used when he really needed it. It was touching see Joey share a part of his life with his father and see Bo want to hold on to that gift for as long as he could till just the right time.

About a year or two ago Bo started coming every Saturday morning at 11am (I can really feel this one because I am writing this Saturday morning and his service is at 11am). I looked forward to seeing his up-beat nature and his desire to learn more about how to make his body work better. Then the day came when he told me that he would no longer being coming for therapy because he had cancer. We talked a little about it but his up-beat nature shown through he would take what lessons life had to offer and do his best. That was the last time I saw Bo and I could see that this was truly a man that would move towards the light in life and in death.

Joey kept me update on his dad’s improvement and that he was actually beating the odds.
It didn’t come too much as a surprise to me. Thank you Bo for sharing a moment in your life with me I enjoyed it.

To the Winn Family,
I count it a priviledge to have known my Brother In Christ, Bo Winn. He helped me many times when I was learning to program computers and we had a mutual respect for each other musically. He was a very good percussionist. I enjoyed working with him and enjoyed his interpretation of the scriptures as he studied and taught them extensively through Precept and other methodologies. Even though I did not have frequent contact with Bo I did enjoy very much the times we were able to fellowship and interact together. He helped many companies make their computer and networking equipment more efficient, he taught many people how to use and program computer equipment efficiently and he was an excellent father and a loving and faithful husband. I indeed will miss Bo and again want to wish his family every blessing.

Thursday Morning, November 2, 2006; 10:15 a.m.

Dear Family,

I never met Bo personally but I know him. I've not met Carol Ann yet either, but I know you both. I know who you are through my buddy Joey. I know that Bo loves God with all that he is. I know that he loves his family too and now, more than ever. Those are the curious qualities that the scripture assures are trademarks of those who are born of the Spirit. The commitment to "speak those things which become sound doctrine" and live the example before his family according to Titus 2 is obvious of Bo as evidenced in the life of Joey. I see it in his face, I hear it in the gentleness of his words… it is mirrored in his walk.

I know too that Bo is present with the Lord… there’s no doubt in my mind because he is noticeably “absent from the body.” In just a few hours, you family members will be seeing his earthly tabernacle for the last time. You had the blessing of being by his side when who he “is” left where he “dwelt.” The next time you see him, his mortal will have put on immortality and we’ll be standing by his side. Job said it in chapter 19, “though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh will I see God.”

Please know that there are many who have been touched by Bo Winn having never met him. I love him and I pray for you during these difficult days. I cry with you, I rejoice with you, I’m sad, I’m mad, I’m relieved, I’m upset and then, above all, I’m thankful and comforted. Thankful that we have the assurance in 1 Thes., Chapter 4 that the “dead in Christ will rise first” and together we’ll “meet the Lord in the air.” I look forward to meeting Bo and I believe that day is upon us. Praise God.

What a privilege it was to know Bo!!
I had the utmost respect and admiration for him!! My prayers are with his family.

Carol, My heart was greatly saddened when I learned of the death of precious Bo. He will be missed by you and others of his family as well as his many friends.

Even though I have not seen you for sometime, you have often been in my thoughts and prayers. There is a special place in my heart for you, and for you I will be praying.
