Robert Lee "Bob" Withers

One of my Willamette AXO friends let me know about Bob, because she knew we had always been friends. He was so nice to me during our university days with his good sense of humor and fun. We enjoyed chatting at class reunions and had an especially good time at the 50th, when a small group of us broke away from all the hoopla banquets and went out to dinner on our own, mostly his Phi Delta Theta brothers. I always hate to see another classmate pass, and I extend my deepest condolences to all your family.

My parents were great friends with Lee and Ann Withers, Bob’s parents and as a youngster I admired Bob’s sense of humor and wit. He would scare us with stories of “haunted” rooms in the large home they lived in Woodburn. I never forgot the Schwinn Black Phantom bicycle that Bob had outgrown and was purchased for me by my parents! It was the greatest bike a young boy could own! When my wife and I moved back to Mt. Angel, I was pleasantly surprised to see the retirement homes we moved into were being built with lumber from Withers Lumber Co. it brought back all the good memories! Rest In Peace Bob!
