Robert Woolcox Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 30, 2025.
Robert Lewis "Bob" Woolcox, age 88, passed away peacefully on December 28, 2025, in Traverse City, Michigan. Born on December 1, 1937, in Oxford, Michigan, Bob lived a full and joyful life rooted in love for his family, faith, and the great outdoors.

A proud graduate of Oxford High School, Bob carried with him the values of hard work and kindness throughout his life. He was known for his ever-present smile and generous spirit-traits that endeared him to everyone he met. A true "people person," Bob had an uncanny ability to make others feel welcome and valued. Whether sharing stories about the "good ol' days" or engaging in a spirited game of Euchre or Pinochle around the card table, he brought warmth and laughter wherever he went.

Known as "Whistling Bob" to his customers, he spent his career serving his community in the grocery business, starting with the family owned store known as Bill's Market in Waterford, MI. In the early 1980's he relocated to Mio where he opened Julie's Dairy Barn. He then began working at Glens Market where he retired.

Bob's love for nature was a defining part of who he was. He found peace and joy in the woods and waters of Michigan, especially when hunting whitetail deer-his favorite animal-or fishing for bluegill. He often said there was nothing better than enjoying both from the frying pan. Trapping and fishing were not just hobbies but cherished pastimes that connected him deeply to the land and friends he loved.

His faith was central to his life. A devoted member of Tri-Point Church of Mio, Bob loved The Lord with all his heart. His gentle demeanor and unwavering kindness reflected his spiritual devotion and left a lasting impression on those around him.

Above all else, Bob loved his wife Debra and their blended family with all his heart. His deep affection for them was evident in every word he spoke and every action he took. He is survived by his beloved wife Debra Woolcox; daughter Lee Ann Woolcox; sons Keith (Tammy) Woolcox and David (Teresa) Woolcox; stepchildren Kelly Gusler, Evan (Bobbi) Gusler, Sara Gusler, and Cole (Heather) Gusler; thirteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and his "beloved" cat Otis.

He was preceded in death by his parents Percy and Florence Woolcox, as well as sisters Barbara Ann Young and Betty Jean Woolcox.

Bob's legacy is one of unconditional love-a man without a mean bone in his body who gave freely of himself to others. His presence will be missed beyond measure by all who had the privilege to know him.

May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire kindness in the world he leaves behind.

A memorial service will be held in the Spring of 2026.

I worked with Bob for many years at Glen's market. He was loved by all. Later in life he married Debbie, my son's mother in law. We always looked forward to seeing him at family gatherings. A great guy. RIP Bob.

I worked with Bob at Glens. To say he made it fun, joyful and fun to be there is an understatement!!! If one had a story to tell, this is definitely one of the places that you would hear a good laugh from! I am so sorry to the family and each one that his life touched. To know him, was to definitely love and remember him. If you ran into this man, he could put a smile on your face and a memory that will last a lifetime. Rest I. Peace Mr Bob!!!

We certainly did have the privilege to know Bob. As much as he will be sadly missed, we should all celebrate him and his life well lived. He has always been very kind and thoughtful and fun to be around.
Wishing Deb and the family comfort and peace at this difficult time.
Much sympathy, Jim and Pat Wood
