Robert Yoder Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 8, 2022.
Robert W. Yoder, 79, formerly of Lewisburg, PA, passed away on the evening of September 12th at the Tidewell Hospice in Venice, Florida. Bob, as he liked to be called, was born in Williamsport, Pennsylvania on December 31st, 1942, to the late Charles and Margaret Yoder.

Bob attended Lewisburg High School (Class of 1960). After graduation, he attended Penn State University, Hazleton Campus, where he met his wife of 60 years, Elizabeth (Betty). Bob graduated from PSU in 1962 with his associates degree in Engineering. Following his PSU graduation, he worked for Stone and Webster, an engineering firm in New York City. His engineering career revolved around the building of nuclear power plants. In 1974, tired of the long daily commute to NYC, Bob and his family returned to Lewisburg, Pennsylvania where he started United Reality, Inc. and built many beautiful custom homes. When Bob's father retired from the insurance business, Bob and Betty took the helm of Yoder Insurance Inc., where they both worked until retirement. After retiring, Bob and Betty spent their summers in Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania, to be closer to their daughter, Jill, son-in-law, Joe, and granddaughter, Danielle. They spent their winters in Florida for several years before moving full-time to Florida.

Bob was an avid golfer his whole life and organized an annual family golf tournament called The Yoder Scramble for many years. He belonged to Bucknell Golf Club when he lived in Lewisburg and later became a member at Deep Creek Golf Course in Port Charlotte, Florida. He and Betty loved competing in golf tournaments and spent their days post-retirement doing exactly that-golfing and dining with their friends. Bob loved live music and spent most evenings listening and dancing to music at Hurricane Charley's with his wife, Betty.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Margaret Yoder, and brother, James. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth L. Yoder, daughter Jill Barrasse and son-in-law Joe Barrasse, as well as granddaughter Danielle Barrasse.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Association (P.O. Box 96011 Washington, DC 20090-6011).

He was a wonderful friend to Bill Morrison , We golfed together and his wife.Betty. We have not kept in touch and that is a shame. I didn´t realize he was gone until I tried to locate them though we loved them dearly. Maybe we can see Betty again before it is too late for all of us. I will try to reach her through her daughter. We still talk about Bob and tell other people about how he would hit his four wood so far. This is just a small memory we had so many. Lena and Bill Morrison 570-971-2367 is our phone number
