Roberta (Bobbie) Powell Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 19, 2024.
Roberta ("Bobbie") Joyce Powell, age 75, of Rochelle, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, June 17, 2024 in her home, surrounded by her family. Bobbie was born on April 13, 1949 in Aurora, Illinois. She was the daughter of Robert and Joyce Watson. She resided in Oswego, graduating from Oswego High School in 1967. Four years later she married Gaylon Powell of Jonesboro, Arkansas. He would become her lifelong companion.

She was a daughter, sister, cousin, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, and friend. Bobbie had many hobbies and talents. She was very good at academics, especially reading. She enjoyed crafts and scrapbooking. But her favorite pastime was praying. If Bobbie knew you, she was praying for you. She kept post-it notes, journals, and pictures all over her house to remind herself of what everyone needed from God. She was so good at showing unconditional love. The way that she cared for people was admirable. She sent out cards on a steady basis. Many meals were made for ailing friends and loved ones. If someone needed to talk over lunch or over the phone, she made time for them. Many anonymous gifts were given from her as well. Her steady presence of love will be missed by those that knew her best.

Bobbie was always there. Whether it was a grandchild's play or sporting event, a wedding, baby shower, church event or cookout; she was there. Her consistent and persistent way of showing up for those she cared about was truly remarkable, and her absence will be significant. She made every person feel special, every grandchild was her favorite, every moment with her was memorable.

The outpouring of love, support, prayers and fond memories has uplifted the family and will continue to carry us through these difficult days. Bobbie touched more lives than anyone will ever be able to count, and her legacy will live on through her family.

Bobbie has left behind her husband, Gaylon, two daughters; Shelly (Cameron) Wiegartz and Laura Powell, six grandchildren; Trinity Harms, Tirzah Harms, Riley Wiegartz, Asher Wiegartz, TJ Harms and Addison Wiegartz, two siblings; Michael Watson (Michale Sanders) and Diana (Fernando) Chapa her mother, Joyce Watson, and many, many, MANY friends. She was preceded in death by her father Bob Watson, in-laws Johnnie and Eileen Powell, cousins Sue Moeller, Jim Blatner and Jim Watson, sister-in-law Phyllis Furnish, niece Shirlene Furnish, great-nephew Noah Reeves, along with grandparents, aunts and uncles.

Funeral arrangements have been made with Bethel Assembly of God 131 W. Elm St., Sycamore, IL. Visitation will be held at Bethel on Saturday, June 22 from 9-11:30 am. Funeral will follow at 11:30 am, with a luncheon immediately after.

Memorial donations can be made to Bethel Missions. https://secure.myvanco.com/L-Z3PR/campaign/C-122SB

I´m shocked and saddened to hear of Bobbie´s passing. She was one of my first friends when my family moved to Noulder Hill and I started 7th grade at Oswego Jr High, in the old red brick school. We graduated together from Oswego High in 1967. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends.

We first met at Harvest Chapel in 1989. Our youngest, Bradley was 2 years old and had never been in a nursery. Even though we were new to the church, I felt so comfortable leaving him with Bobble. I knew he was in good hands. More recently when Brad´s baby boy was in the hospital, Bobbie´s heartfelt prayers surely touched heaven for him. I am eternally grateful. Her love and support at that time meant the world.

The Bible studies we had in Bobbie and Gaylon´s home will be part of me forever. I so enjoyed the lunches we had together after I moved away and came back to visit; we could talk for hours. She was a true treasure.

I think I met Bobby way back in the early 1990's either at a bible study with Judy McIntyre or at the Plano Vineyard and then she and Galen had a bible study at their house.
Such great times as friends and rich fellowship in the Lord . Bobby was always overflowing with love and compassion and are both dog lovers so that just added to it. Bobby were very generous people and it was a privilege to count them as friends.
Continuing prayers Galen and for the family. And Bobby enjoy your new home we will meet you there !
So sorry I can't attend the celebration of Bobbies life . I'm 6 hrs away now .

Bobbie and I met on a weight loss board many moons ago (near 30) though we only met in person once she fast became the glue that held our group together. Such a precious soul like hers is rare and shall be missed.

Bobbie & I spent countless hours together over coffee, breakfast or lunch. We talked non stop for hours on each occasion. She was always there for me through out my life. She was my Godmother & we grew an incredible friendship as I grew up. She lead me to Jesus, which had an incredible impact on who I am today.
She was present for both my baby christening & my baptism in March of this year. She was the best listener & hugger. I will honor & cherish her all of my days until we meet again.
I love you Bobbie, rest with your Heavenly Father, I will hug you again someday. Your loving God daughter, Wendy

I´ll treasure the times we sat on the swing and Cam & Shelly´s porch talking about life and our Grandchildren.
Enjoyed the times when the Papa´s & Nana´s were together sharing our Grandchildren and Izzy.
Continue prayers & love to all of you.

Bobbi was one of the most loving, giving, and caring persons I've ever known. She will be missed, but we will see her again in heaven!
