Robin Foss Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 30, 2025.
Loveland - In Memoriam - Robin Rosalie Foss of Loveland, Colorado passed away peacefully on June 14, 2025. Her family was with her in the days leading up to her passing.

Born Robin Rosalie Brooks on June 25, 1944, in Santa Ana, California to Jackson R. and Jacqueline L. Brooks, who preceded her in death, she spent the early years of her childhood there. Robin was the oldest of four children, moving in early 1955 with her family from Santa Ana to Fort Collins where she finished growing up. Before graduating from Fort Collins High School in 1962, she was a member of the Junior Red Cross and A Cappella choir. She was a gifted singer, lettering in Vocal Music, and shortly after graduating high school, competed and took 2nd place in the 1962 "Miss Fort Collins" pageant with her performance of George Gershwin's "Summertime".

After high school, Robin married Frederick "Freddie" J. Foss of Fort Collins and welcomed the first of their three sons Frederick "Fritz" J. Foss II in summer of 1963, later welcoming Steven J. Foss in the fall of 1966 on Vandenburg A.F.B. California and Robert B. Foss in the summer of 1968 on Ramey A.F.B. Puerto Rico. Robin spent the early 1970s between Fort Collins and Cheyenne, Wyoming raising her sons, enjoying singing in her church choir and being close to extended family again. She was a lifelong Christian, and, in her youth and her younger adult life, she was an active member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Fort Collins, singing the Lord's praise with her heavenly voice.

In 1979, Robin enlisted and served honorably for 20 years in the United States Air Force Reserves in roles including laboratory specialist and technician, First Sergeant, and medical administrative superintendent with the 140 TAC Hospital, Colorado Air National Guard at Buckley Air National Guard Base, retiring with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant in 1999. She deployed with her unit many times and was a veteran of Operation Desert Shield/Storm receiving the National Defense Service Medal for her service in that campaign.

Robin also began an accomplished civilian medical career in 1980. After training at the International Ultrasound Institute in Dallas, Texas, she became one of only a few diagnostic ultrasonographers nationwide practicing in veterinary and human medicine, working for both the Veterinary Teaching Hospital at Colorado State University and for Poudre Valley Hospital, later becoming Chief Sonographer for the Fort Collins Women's Clinic. She helped countless animal and human patients throughout her career, retiring in 2001 after becoming disabled from repetitive stress injuries sustained while doing her job.

Robin is survived by her three sons and families including 8 grandchildren, her younger siblings Barbara Haynie, Jennifer Brooks, and Brian Brooks and their families, several members of her extended family and their families, and her cat Squeaky (who she adored and has a new home with her son Steve and his family). Robin had a keen mind and great sense of humor throughout her life and loved her time with family and friends, reminiscing and laughing about memories they shared. She loved animals and devoted part of her career and resources to helping them. She was dearly loved and is dearly missed.

A memorial service remembering Robin is being planned, the details for which will be announced separately. Robin was a supporter of Larimer Humane Society, Food Bank for Larimer County, American Humane Society, and the National Wildlife Federation. Please consider donating to any of these in honor of her life.

I worked with Robin when she was a PVH. She was a joy! We had such fun together with all of the other employees. She was a bright spot and ALWAYS had a smile! We were on the PVH league bowling team together and had many good times together! she was a gem and I have thought of her so many times. Lots of good memories tucked away in hearts....love you Robin!

When I was a veterinary student in the '80s, Robin was our ultrasound tech. She had a somewhat crusty way with students, but we got along just fine. A couple of years after graduation, I had to have an ultrasound. The tech was Robin! We had a nice reunion chat. Then, I spied the bottle of gel. Robin's eyes seemed to turn red. I shivered in fear. She held to bottle high over my tummy, looked at me again, and squeezed. The gel was warm as bathwater. We both had a chuckle at that. Her important contribution to veterinary medicine was as a pioneer. Few people knew how to US an animal. Now, it's an industry standard, and today, most full service clinics have US machines. I never knew about her service record. But I will always remember and thank Robin for being one of my teachers. Thank you for your service to our country, Robin. And thank you for taking students to a new level of knowledge. May your memory be a blessing.
