So many years ago, in high school and shortly after, Robin distinguished himself with his knowledge and his passion. Words and debate his pleasures. So sorry to learn he has become quiet too soon.

It is with deep sadness that I heard of Robin's passing. I knew Robin for many years and he proved to be a wonderful and caring friend. He indeed was a great debater and we often had discussions regarding his respect and admiration of Sir Winston Churchill. Robin you will be missed.

I knew Robin when we both worked on the Eyeopener back in the early 70s. The Eye was Ryerson's weekly newspaper and we were both enrolled in the journalism school. I was one of the editor's when Robin first joined the staff and we were damn happy for it as he was the only guy who had any real newspaper experience. It was in his blood, so to speak. Of course, in those days he had hair nearly down to his waist and a wispy beard. He also played a pretty mean game of road hockey. They were good times made even better with Robin's presence.

Hard to describe the sadness I feel knowing that Robin has left us. His calm, understated demeanour belied his wicked wit, erudition and wonderful sense of humour. His editorials were a joy, and the envy of many of us.
Robin was an inspiration, and a boundless source of knowledge of the community newspaper business with which he grew up, and saw evolve from the days of hot metal to the internet. He knew more about historical battles, particularly those involving the British, than this Brit had ever heard of.
I'll never forget his kindness, his love of family (and boxer dogs), and the great times we shared with our colleagues at the Ontario and Canadian Community Newspaper Associations in the 1990's and early 2000.
He's gone too soon – and there is indeed ‘a-sighing and a-sobbing' today. Good bye dear friend, it was a privilege to know you and work with you.
