I worked as a Pharmacist at Cork's Pharmacy in 1978/79. I got to know Dr. Coler when he would cut through the pharmacy to get to the rear entrance of his office. He would often times come in the pharmacy back door and get injectable meds for use in his office. Dr. Coler was always so polite, well dressed and professional. His stethoscope was always around his neck or in his back pocket. Prescriptions were written with care and the inscription stated the purpose of the medication. Few prescribers wrote that way, back then. When I went on to become a dentist I wrote prescriptions the same way, always stating the purpose. He certainly had his influence on me!
Rod, you were so dedicated and did it right! Thanks for the memories!

When I first moved to Kennewick in 1995 to practice medicine Dr. Comer was one of the first physicians I met. He wined and dined me at a couple of recruiting dinners and was an endless source of information about the area and especially its flora and fauna. He was very involved with medical staff development at KGH and organized endless Grand Rounds for education over the noon hour. As he gradually decreased the size of his practice I was fortunate enough to care for some of his previous patients who spoke of him with much love and respect. He was truly "a renaissance man" who had boundless energy and enthusiasm for life, the outdoors and the fine art and science of medicine. R.I.P. Dr. Coler

As the daughter of Jim and Burdette Schlosser, I have many nice memories of Dr. Coler. He was sharp, had a quick wit, and was friendly and inviting to all. I remember him doing some star gazing with my Dad a time or two as well. Watching fireworks at his place is also a fond memory. Good to have those to look back on and smile. My thoughts are for the family to have the comfort of knowing such a good man, and that he was able to see his grandchildren. The value of such good people in our lives should not be underestimated.

A wonderful tribute to a truly extraordinary human being and a wonderful uncle. My thoughts and prayers are with all of my family in the Pacific Northwest.

My memories of Dr. Coler (Rod) go back to the 1970's when he treated members of my family. He, along with Ralph deBit and Thelma, Rod's wife, were the reasons I came back to Kennewick to set up my practice. I worked alongside Rod at what was then Kennewick General Hospital, spending hours on the floor both early and late discussing diagnoses and treatment of our patients as well as the stories of our lives. He could easily top anything I came up with. He had an absolutely amazing verve for Medicine, science and life, in general. His energy was boundless. I remember that he and a couple of other Kennewick doctors would get in their cars at the end of their office day and drive to Seattle to hear lectures given at the University of Washington and then, sometimes in blizzards, drive back that very night to see their patients the next morning. He really cared about his patients - so much so, that were it not for Thelma, his wife, he likely would have forgotten or neglected to bill them for their visits. I have never met a kinder soul and as the other people have said, a light has gone out in our world that we will sorely miss.

Dr. Coler was often a guest in my kindergarten classroom with his insect collection. The first time I went on a bird walk with this interesting man, he picked up a large beetle and put it in his pocket! On a later bird walk, he locked his keys in his car. I drove him to his wonderful house & property. My kindergarten and first-grade classes walked the Dr. Roderick Coler Audubon Nature Trail each year as our final field trip. Sometimes this famous person, with his name on the big rock, joined us! My condolences to his family and to our community for this loss.

Rod Coler was such an extraordinary man. He loved life. He was a joy to be around. He always had a smile on his face. Always ready to stop and chat. Always ready to help. Always ready to teach and was an excellent teacher. He had so many interests and hobbies. I worked with Rod for 25 years and I was amazed that he would run over to the hospital from the office, not walk. He stayed very active even skiing in his later years. Such an impressive man. He cared so much about his patients and worked long hours. Rod will be missed by myself and so many people. I am sorry for his family's loss.
