Rod was a great teacher, mentor and friend as well as my uncle. He encouraged my photographic journey and always gave me love and encouragement. I will miss you tremendously.

When I became a Chief Petty Officer, my first assignment was a transfer to the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps. in 1971. I relieved Rod and the Commanding Officer. He was a great man and I often sought his advice on training the youth of Monterey County to become not only good sailors but good citizens.

Rod was a very kind and caring human being. He was someone who enjoyed sharing his knowledge of photography so freely. I am very grateful to have known him and was able to spend time learning about him, his family and his joy of photography. I will always cherish our talks. Until we meet again..Love, Janis
