Rodney Lawson Obituary
Rodney Lawson was born in Manhattan, Kansas on February 12, 1955. Rodney's first job was when he was 6 or 7 mowing lawns with a push mower he'd gotten on layaway at the local hardware store. He paid it off within the year by knocking on neighbor's doors and asking for their business.
In high school, he was a straight A student and a great athlete in most anything he tried. As a pitcher, he threw a 96 mile an hour fastball and was eyed by several college recruiters. Despite that, didn't 'go to the show' and that proved to be one of his life's greatest regrets.
After graduating from Kansas State with a dual major in Finance and Psychology, he became a stock broker with the esteemed firm Merrill-Lynch. Subsequently he held Enterprise Sales and Leadership positions with One Source, Dun & Bradstreet and Reuters. Rodney told a great story and had a contagious enthusiasm as a coach and mentor which led to his success and ability to close 6-7 figure deals. He loved his sports (*most of all his K-State Wildcats*) and would frequent the Flatiron Bar in downtown San Rafael to rub elbows with fellow fans and close friends.
Rodney loved the Caribbean and visited many islands including Antigua, Barbados, Aruba, Jamaica, and St. Vincent to name a few. In fact, the name Rodney means "from the islands".
A huge lover of dogs, over the years, Rodney owned 2 St. Bernards, a Labrador, Golden Retriever, a couple mutts, a Doberman and fostered over 100 dogs for Milo Foundation.
Always one to wonder about the universe and why we were here on this earth, his big thoughts and big heart will be missed.
His remains will be sent back to his hometown of Manhattan, KS and will be buried in his family's plot. Donations may be made to Milo Foundation
