Rodney Hutchinson Resta

Rodney Hutchinson Resta passed away at home in Ormond Beach on October 15, 2015. Mr. Resta was born in Omaha, Nebraska on October 9, 1927, and following his retirement moved to Ormond Beach in 1987. He was an Army veteran of World War II and Korea, serving in the Infantry, retiring as a Lt. Col. He earned a Civil Engineering degree from the University of Maryland. He spent his career managing the design of all types of projects for the Army Corps of Engineers in the Northeastern states and the Lower Mississippi Valley, retiring as Chief of Engineering for the Federal Mississippi River Commission. He served as the U.S. Representative to the Permanent International Association of Navigation Congresses. He was a registered professional engineer and a Fellow in the American Society of Civil Engineers. He worked with many local charities: Memorial Hospital Board of Directors and its Foundation, was an Officer and Director for the Daytona Beach Symphony Society, Officer and Director for local and State Kiwanis. He volunteered for Meals on Wheels and Habitat for Humanity. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Ormond Beach, where he sang in the choir and was a member of the Seekers Sunday School Class. He enjoyed playing tennis, bridge and golf; built sailing ship models; built and flew radio controlled model airplanes; and did cabinet making. Survivors include his wife of 57 years Nan, and their children John (Lisa) Resta of Jackson, Mississippi; Janet (Steve) Wagner of Vicksburg, Mississippi; and Elizabeth (Don) Draper of Cumming, Georgia; and grandchildren Lauren, Matthew, Nan Marie and Stephen; a sister, Marcele Gallez of Santa Rosa, California; and a brother, Francis Resta of Davis, California. A memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church, 336 Halifax Drive in Ormond Beach.
