Rogelio Martinez Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 13, 2014.
Dr. Rogelio de la Rosa Martinez, 74, passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 12, 2014, in the company of loved ones.

He met his soul mate of 47 years Dr. Erlinda Orquiza Agustin Martinez at the University of the East Medical School in Manila, Philippines. After earning their medical degrees, they married and moved immediately to Akron, Ohio for their residency training in internal medicine and pediatrics, respectively.

Roger was a partner in the Woodbine Medical Group before starting his own private practice in internal medicine at Southern Hills Medical Center in 1980. He was known to his colleagues and patients as a physician with a booming laugh and gifted healing hands.

Besides his loving wife, survivors include daughter Elizabeth Anne and her husband Nick Baldick; son Joseph Roger and his wife Leslie Garrison Martinez; grandchildren Serena and Aidan Baldick; brothers Alberto (and wife Vilma) and Ernesto (and wife Tita) Martinez; and sister-in-law Dr. Rosario L Agustin.

Visitation will take place from 4-8pm on Friday, November 14, 2014 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Brentwood, Tennessee. Funeral services will be at 11:30am on Saturday, November 14, 2014 at the church.

A wonderful man and a wonderful family! I wish I could have known all of you before Roger became ill, but I feel blessed to have been a part of your lives for the last 10 months. Through all of the pain and the sorrow, he kept his sense of humor, his gracious nature, and his compassion for others. What a great role model for all of us. He and Linda were both so strong and courageous as they faced each new day and its trials. Their love and commitment to each other never waning. My thoughts and prayers are with Linda and the family today and going forward. May you find continued strength in the knowledge that his love is everlasting.

Lolo Martinez was not only an incredible father to Liz and Joey and an incredible grandfather to Serena and Aidan, he touched the lives of all their friends too. He and Lola became second family to Ed and I and Jack. We will miss his smile, his laugh and his infectious enthusiasm. He leaves a true legacy of compassion and kindness and intelligence in his children and grandchildren.

I was a patient of Dr Martinez & he was fabulous! Sweet, kind, jolly & totally upfront with his recommendations. I know I will never find another physician that I will like as much. My condolences to the family.

I will never forget the first time I met Dr. Roger Martinez (Tito Roger for us). He was my Dad and Mom's best friend and doctor. He was full of life and compassion with an infectious laugh. I know his patients, family, friends and me and my family will miss him terribly. I pray that God will will grant his family comfort as we express great gratitude to him for giving us the opportunity to be touched by such a gentle man and humanitarian.
