Roger Anderson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 11, 2025.
Roger Kent Anderson, 87, of San Angelo, Texas, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2025, in Richardson, Texas, surrounded by loved ones.

Roger was born on September 18, 1937, in Villa Park, Illinois. During his childhood, he moved with his family to San Angelo, Texas, where he spent his formative years. While attending high school, Roger worked at a local grocery store and later at a television station while pursuing studies at San Angelo College. He went on to transfer to Texas Tech University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.

In his final semester at Texas Tech, Roger accepted a position with General Telephone Company (GTE) in San Angelo. However, upon graduation, he received a draft notice and proudly served in the U.S. Army in Nuremberg, Germany. After completing his service and receiving an honorable discharge, Roger returned to GTE and relocated to Baytown, Texas for training. It was there that he met Anna Margaret Shane. The two married on December 22, 1962, in Alvin, Texas, beginning a loving partnership that spanned over six decades. They eventually settled in San Angelo to raise their family.

Roger had a lifelong passion for math and enjoyed solving problems for fun through his subscription to *The Bent*. He generously tutored students who needed help with their math courses. An avid runner, Roger co-founded the San Angelo Running Club with friends Alan Borger and Tom Mayfield and completed nearly 30 marathons during his lifetime. Later in life, he embraced woodworking, crafting beautiful items such as pens for graduating high school seniors and gifts for those he appreciated.

He was proceeded in death by his parents Kenneth and Irene, his sister Rhoda, and son Eric Shane.

Roger is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Anna Margaret; daughter Cara Jermstad and her husband Eric; and grandchildren August, Autumn, and Sarah Jermstad and his sister Carolyn Kerston. A memorial service is planned for the 18th of January at 11 o'clock at the St Paul Presbyterian Church in San Angelo, Texas.

Roger's kindness and selflessness touched countless lives. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.

Today, as we attended the Appreciation Luncheon for Meals for the Elderly, John and I learned of Rogers's passing. It came as a total shock and all the memories came flooding back. This picture is from last year's luncheon. Our most sincere condolences to Anna Margaret and the family. Prayers for peace and strength.

I just loved Roger! Anna Margaret and I taught at Alta Loma Elementary. Remember the " glasses with a nose and mustache" and the dumpster incident, Anna Margaret? You two were so much full of mischief! Prayers for you with your loss.
