Roger Bull Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 19, 2012.
Roger E. Bull, 53, Brookside Drive, died at his home Wednesday morning.

Mr. Bull was born in Watertown, NY, on October 4, 1958, to Dr. Wilbur
S. Bull and Mary E. Bull. He was raised at the family home on
Brookside Drive. He attended Watertown High School until his senior
year when he attended Immaculate Heart Central, graduating in 1976.

Mr. Bull and his wife, Mary, were childhood friends and met at a
community event in Rutland. They were reconnected years later and were
married June 14, 1980, at Sacred Heart Church in Watertown. They made
their residence on Brookside Dr. in Burrville, building a house where
they raised their four sons.

Following high school, Mr. Bull began his medical career with
Guilfoyle Ambulance as an EMT. In 1982, he became an insurance agent
with Prudential. In 1986, Mr. Bull became a Deputy Sherriff for
Jefferson County. He resigned in 1989 to enroll at Jefferson Community College's Nursing Program. Mr. Bull graduated with Honors with his Masters in Healthcare Administration in June of 2010 from New England College in New Hampshire.

Graduating from JCC in 1992, Mr. Bull began his long career as a
Registered Nurse at Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown. In 2007, he
was appointed Patient Care Coordinator. In 2009, he was a union
representative for the New York Nurses Association, and in January
2011, became the supervisor of patient care services at Carthage Area
Hospital and was subsequently promoted to administrator of patient
care services and held that position before resigning in December. Mr.
Bull had recently taken a position with Upstate University Hospital in
Syracuse, NY.

Surviving besides his wife are four sons and one granddaughter:
Nathaniel and his wife, Erica and their daughter, Lauren; Jacob and
his wife Star Carter; Hudson and his wife Holly; and Schuyler. Mr.
Bull is also survived by three sisters: Carol Bull, Jean Hollister,
and Dorothy Haney. His brother, Robert E. Bull, predeceased him.

As a life-long resident of Brookside Drive, he cherished the community
and his neighbors. He welcomed any opportunity to be called upon when
his help, company, talent, or comfort was needed by others. For the
past twelve years, he and his wife devoted their lives to be the
live-in, primary caregivers to his parents. They are also the primary
caregivers to his mother-in-law, Mary (Betty) Boomhower, who survives
him. In this, he derived much happiness.

The funeral will be at 1 pm Sunday, January 22nd at the Holy Family Church, Winthrop St., with Rev Steven Murray and Rev. Leon "Toby" Schilling co- officiating. Spring burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Town of Rutland. Calling hours will be Saturday, January 21st from 2 pm - 5 pm at the Reed and Benoit Funeral Home, Watertown. Contributions may be made to the Jefferson Community College Nursing Program or to the Town of Watertown Volunteer Fire Department.

Jean:

I was stunned to read of your brother's death. Both of them now gone. How tragic.

Not too long ago, I met your "little" brother again at a Boon Street School Alumni Reunion. It was such fun recalling all of the wonderful times at your family's home-playing with you and LuAnn Myers and exploring all of Burrville.

He spoke, with great pride, of his sons and wife. I have read here of what a wonderful family he has. Please accept my sincerest sympathies. He will always remain in your heart and you can call upon him whenever you choose.

God Bless

The Bull Family,

Even though all of us children are grown, it seems only a short while ago us neighborhood kids were having campouts on the hill. I remember Roger would randomly “drop by” to make sure we weren't causing trouble (and of course we never were). I'm sure it's small gestures like that which were most influential upon our lives; I know they were on mine. My thoughts of healing go out to you all.

To the Bull Family,
My sincere sympathy on the loss of a wonderful man. I knew him only as a fellow nurse at Samaritan where we both worked on 4 East. Even during the hardest of shifts we were able to laugh together over some funny little something. He had a good sense of humor, and was a lot of fun. I will miss his smile and wonderful knowledge of nursing in general. God Bless all of your family as you mourn his loss.

Growing up in Burrville was and still is a privilege and knowing Roger was a part of that. He truly was a Renaissance man with all his various talents. To say that he will be missed is an understatement. Jim and I as well as our families and friends were blessed to have known him. Our prayers and our thoughts for healing go out to you all. Thank you for the times that you shared him with us. Remember the good times for there were many of them.

Dear Mary and Family,
I am so sorry to hear of Roger's passing and although I don't know you personally, I can tell you that over the years, when I came to town from California to visit my mom, Roger was always proud to tell me what each of you was doing. He loved all of you so much and loved to brag about you, but never about himself. He even offered to drop in to check on my mom before she moved away downstate. We met in the seventh grade at North and remained friends. I worked in his dad's office in high school and know the loving care Roger gave his parents. The world has lost a very good man in Roger. My deepest condolences to you.

January 20, 2012

My deepest sympathies to Roger's family-I've had the pleasure of knowing Roger for 20 years and went to nursing school with him, and worked together at SMC for long time. He was always joking and upbeat-I will miss him. God Bless You All.
