Roger W. Calvin

HADLEY — Roger W. Calvin, 69, of 1 Grandview Drive, Lot 1, Hadley, died at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009, at UPMC Horizon, Greenville.He was born in Atlantic on Oct. 21, 1926, a son of Trace and Mabel Rice Calvin. He married Juanita I. Williams on June 11, 1949.Roger was a member of Hadley Presbyterian Church, where he was an elder and a member of the men's choir.He retired from R.D. Werner Co. with 44 and a half years of service in the maintenance department. He was in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1955, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was an avid Steelers and Pirates fan, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and spending time with family and grandchildren. Survivors include four daughters, Deborah G. Swigart and her husband, Ray, of Butler, Donna L. Richardson of Greenville, Dianne S. Kasbee and her husband, James, of Hadley, and Jamie E. Calvin of Hadley; two brothers, Robert Calvin and his wife, Marge, of Conneautvllle, and Arden Calvin of Greenville; a sister, Opal Baird of Atlantic; and five grandsons, Douglass W. Swigart, Michael R. Swigart, Dustin W. Richardson, Eric A. Richardson and Cordell W. Kasbee.He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Stanley Calvin; a brother-in-law, David Baird; and a son-in-law, Keith Richardson.The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Hadley Presbyterian Church, Church Street, with the Rev. Dr. Charles A. Van Dyne, pastor of Hadley Presbyterian Church, officiating.Calling hours will be Thursday from 3 to 7 p.m. at Andrew J. Vana Funeral Home, 102 Church St., Hadley, and one hour prior to the service at the church.Burial will be in Hadley Cemetery.The family requests memorials be made to StrayHaven Inc., 94 Donation Road, Greenville, Pa. 16125.
