Roger Cowdery Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 6, 2025.
Canandaigua - Roger Kirke Cowdery, 98 years, entered eternal rest on September 4, 2025, joining his beloved wife, Barbara Kimball; daughter Sue; and his tight-knit Cowdery siblings and parents. Roger and Barbara raised their children, Dottie, Bob, and Sue in New Hartford, NY, faithfully attending and serving at New Hartford Presbyterian Church. Roger taught Electrical Technology at MVCC for 25 years. During the past 15 years, he lived in Ithaca and Canandaigua, NY, cherishing time in proximity to his adult children, Bob and Sue.

Roger's greatest loves were Barbara and his family. Highlights of his family life were summer visits to the Cowdery cabin on Otisco Lake, playing tennis, and long car trips to visit Barbara's California family. In the 1970s, they began Christmas sojourns to camp on Sanibel Island, FL, and later in retirement, continued winter travels to Florida and Hilton Head, SC, for birding, canoeing, and tennis, in addition to their international travels.

Roger, with Barbara, treasured family celebrations and holiday gatherings with their siblings; nieces and nephews; children; grandchildren Carrie, Andrea, Trenner, and Pingan; and great-grandson Howie Roger. Roger lived life embracing family into his final weeks, celebrating 98 years with his surviving twin brother, Ralph, and picking blueberries and playing cards with his family. Roger leaves his legacy as a gentleman and an extraordinary husband and father, a model for all humanity.

In keeping with Roger's wishes no formal funeral service will take place. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to: Hospicare of Tompins County, 172 E. King Road, Ithaca, NY 14850 or online at: https://www.hospicare.org/give/.
