Roger Lear Obituary
Born September 10, 1945 in Anthony, Kansas, he was the son of Ernest and Florence (Whitaker) Lear. He was raised and received his education in Anthony and Arkansas City, graduating from Arkansas City High School. He joined the United States Army on May 12, 1968 and proudly served his country until his honorable discharge on August 30, 1969.
He was united in marriage to Deann Hendrickson on March 2, 1970 in Miami, Oklahoma. The couple made their home in Winfield. Roger worked at Rodeo Meat Packing Plant in Arkansas City for 17 years. He then went to work for the Kansas Highway Department as a road grater and later worked in maintenance at the Kansas State Hospital and Training Center and the Kansas Veterans Home. He was a member of the American Legion Post #10 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3544.
His family includes:
His wife: Deann Lear of Winfield;
His daughters: Gretchen Lear of Augusta; Audra Hittle and husband, Kane of Heath, TX; and
His granddaughters: Lydia and Caroline Hittle of Heath, TX.
In addition to his parents, Roger was preceded in death by his son, Marlon Elliot Lear and sister, Carolyn Robinson.
Graveside memorial services and Military Committal Honors will be held Friday, March 23, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials have been established in Roger’s name for the VFW Post #3544 and the American Legion Post #10. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

I was shocked to see of Rogers passing. I knew him for years as a customer at THE BURGER STATION where I worked as a teen and from WNMH where I worked as a nurse. Mostly I will remember his kindness for stopping in to see my dad, his co-worker at WSH&TC. DADDY (MAX RHODD) ENJOYED those vists more than anyone knew... Sorry for your loss would see Roger at Braums when he was down there with his buddies at his morning coffee .Worked with him at state .was just at my house a couple weeks ago to talk about saws.

Sorry for your loss. Roger was great Father, Husband and Friend, he will be missed. From his neighborly visits when I was young, to my best friend marrying his Daughter and to the occasional Braums coffee time. Roger has always been a fixture in my life, I will miss his sheepish grin, orneriness and conversation. We are praying for your family during this time of need.

Roger was a member of the coffee klatch with me and several others. I did not know Roger before that, later I learned he was a friend of my brother. Roger will be sorely missed. He was a fun part of our little group. RIP, Roger. God bless, and my prayers are with Roger`s family.
