May you have trust the God not of the dead, but of the living, for they are all living to him. Luke 20:38 The resurrection is through his Son, Jesus Christ. Much sympathy for your family's difficult time.

I was head of the Journalism Dept at UAF when Roger was a student. I loved his humor and humanity. I've known a lot of students in my 25+ years as an academic. I can't say I remember them all. But I do remember Roger.

To all who had the pleasure of knowing my dad,
As you all know Roger was such an amazing man. I want to thank all the people who came together to honor Roger and all his spectacular qualities. My father always embraced his children with so much love and care, I feel so lucky for all the years God gave me with him. Every conversation I shared with him ended in "I love you man." His presence was humble and his heart was so pure.
I wish I could have had more time with my dad, but I know one day me and him will be jammin' out in heaven...reminiscing on our beautiful life's and wonderful friends.
I love you pops.

I first met Roger when he was dressed as a bumblebee when the Spuds were playing a Halloween dance at the Depot in Palmer 1983. He was very welcoming when we all went to his little house to play music afterward.

I had the privilege of working with Roger. His distinctive voice echoed with laughter and good cheer. It was a pleasure to know him an call him friend. He will be greatly missed by myself and many others.

Roger brought a real presence to the Fairbanks Peace Choir and touched all of us, participants as well as those who came to hear the choir. I was looking forward to a good visit with Roger this fall but regretfully I didn't act fast enough, which is another poignant reminder not to put off making contact with those you admire and love. We'll be gathering and singing for you tomorrow, Brother. We love you.

The only time in my life that I've been a morning person was when I'd awaken to Roger's gravely voice on KABN radio. He'd always play a Dead tune. Wow, waking to Roger and Jerry, that was high living! And playing music with Roger in Spudgrass was my life's "Summer (and winter) of Love." We miss you, Rog! To quote Joni, you don't know what you've got 'til it's gone.

So many stories and memories since Roger moved to Alaska; learning to play the banjo while roommates was a favorite story of his(30+ years later we still laughed), KABN The Voice in the Valley and calls of "dead air Rog", helping to peel and set logs on our home........ Then his qualities; smile, laugher, love of music, willingness to help, intelligence, friendship, kindness and happiness with life also speak of who Roger was. He leaves behind a long and interesting legacy of experiences and friends.

Ever since I first heard Roger and John playing at Four Corners Lounge so many years ago, Rog has been a favorite musician and friend. We had a day together this summer and he mostly talked about his three kids who he loved deeply and was so very very proud of. Love ya' Rog!

Aloha Roger, I remember you well. We had very different paths at KABN Radio in the early '80's but you were a fine gentleman. I remember the big kick you got from my description of "ventilating" a man with ideas instead of bullets. Your name brings a happy moment to my mind.

I will ALWAYS remember Roger over the KABN airwaves in the 80's while I was tucked away in the Peters Hills, living the remote, good life connected only by the radio. His personality came through loud and clear---I loved tuning into him.
My full heart goes out to all who will miss him.

Roger and I met in 1970 in Eau Claire Wisconsin while attending the University of WI-Eau Claire. He introduced me to some of the best friends a person could have. We shared the best of times and did a lot of camping, back packing, and traveling together, particularly around California. Then some of us ventured to Wasilla: Jim Montgomery aka Boo, Russ Ament, Debbie Ramin, Peter Burn, Laird Wingo,Peggy Ede, Nancy Phillips, Deanna Bruns, Cheryl Link to name a few. Roger was always kind to everyone he encountered, he accepted people for who they were and didn't pass judgement. He embraced being a Bohemian with a whimsical personality. He loved life, people, nature, learning, deep conversations, sharing good times and playing music. He was sincere and compassionate, had the ability to feel intense emotion and enlightenment. He enjoyed life. He loved of his family very, very much. He truly will be missed. Just wonder who he's hanging out with in heaven! Peace to all.

The only time I've been a morning person was when Roger was the morning DJ on KABN radio. Starting the day listening to Rog's gravelly voice -and a little Grateful Dead - it doesn't get better. Playing music with him in Spudgrass was my personal "Summer (and winter) of Love." You don't know what you've got 'til it's gone.

I'm deeply saddened to hear of Roger's passing. I've known him for a long time and when I picked him up hitching a ride this summer I wish I'd known it would be the last time we visited. Roger was an intelligent, thoughtful, and creative man who really loved Fairbanks and he will be missed.
