Dear Gabrielle and Family
We were so sorry to hear of your loss. We have fond memories of your father from your wedding, where we sat with him during the reception and from St Donat years ago when he and your mother kindly hosted us. We recall his robust energy and love for the land and especially the lake. After helping Michael to board a windsurfer, he was ever watchful to ensure his safety. Dear Denise and dear cousins,
From your London based family the deepest sympathies for your loss, which really we feel is all of our loss. Roger is a character that will LIVE long in all our memories. For me, since childhood memories, he was, despite the distance, very present. On my family, with far less time together, he had a very similar impact. I must believe Roger made a deeply positive impression on all people he touched with his warmth, and his positive and friendly approach to life and people. He certainly did on me and most definitely also on Lila, who ever since our first joint visit to Canada (to St. Donat for Christmas 1991) had a little space reserved in her heart for him. Then, and in many subsequent visits, he was instrumental in making her feel welcome in a new, and in many ways strange, family.
Nadia and Daniel were very young when we left the US and only saw Roger once, I believe, thereafter. But I believe it is a testament to his warm personality that both our children are acutely aware of our loss.
Our thoughts are with you.

Ah qu'on était petit et qu'il était grand. Roi incontestable du radeau, tennisman redoutable, skieur nautique qui m'impressionait tant, assis dans mon petit hors-bord...
Le souvenir de Roger est indissociable de St-Donat, des plus belles années de ma vie. Le symbole d'une joie et d'une force de vivre peu commune.
Il était... le plus vivant des pères des chalets Aubertins.
Pour moi, il le restera toujours.

we have many wonderful memories of Roger; we remember him as the "teddy bear" of the family, always warm and friendly with a big hug to share.

Dearest Denise and family,
Today I am very glad for the long chat I had with my brother Roger during his last birthday. Roger has always had a special chamber in my heart.
I admire his tolerance when taking me along to Juan les Pins during your Honey Moon. We drove along Route Napoleon through the beautiful French countryside. This trip laid the foundation for my passion for France. Since then I have made numerous trips to France and I can still hear the voice of Roger singing while driving along the countryside:

Dear Denise and my dear cousins Gaby, Sabine, Anik and Nicolas.
My thoughts are these days with you so many times every day. Loosing Roger and having to find new ways to cope with family gatherings etc. without him will be hard. But I also now you will find yourself in moments when his memory brings out a huge smile, a small laughter, a joke and then suddenly again the deep sorrow.
For me Roger always equaled family love. Already as a small child me and my sisters and cousins were waiting for his speech. So full of passion, so full of love and so full of feelings. When we were younger , much yuonger than today, we were waiting for the moment in his speeches when his warm hearth would flow " through his eyes".
Later on, at older age, I always started crying before he even said anything. He really has so much love for all of us. I'm so happy for the two fantastic evenings with him, with you Denise and with you Gaby only 3 months ago.
When I left we all knew it was the last time I met him. I can still remember every word he said to me on the phone before leaving Canada. I will never forget it and his gesture of hospitality in that phone call.He was an extra ordinary person.
I loved him too.

Roger was a wonderful “brother” and we have problems accepting his passing without saying “hi” to us. We will always remember him already from his first visit to Finland:
- expressing with his warm humour the time for evening radio news in Finnish “kaksikymmentakaksi kaksikymmenta,
- serving us in late evenings his favourite “knaeckebroed with Gruyère cheese and mustard” and
- demonstrating his experiences of family closed doors around Christmas secrets.
We are sorry we lived so far away from this wonderful person.

I had the joy and privilege to know him as a great family friend of ours from when I was a little kid. Roger was such a full hearted, well spirited Gentleman. Mufa was such a gracious man and we feel blessed to have known him. We enjoyed his and Densie's visits to West Hartford as well as spending time with them at the lake house.
