I was a medical student with Roger at UCH, London, so got to know him well; he was always one of the most popular, and 'top of the class'.
He returned to UCH in 2011 to our 50th reunion and it was great to meet up
with him again then.....and to hear all about Costa Rica and his love of birds!
What a great loss - I am so sorry, and send condolences to Wendy and the rest of his family.

Dear Wendy,Ibrahim contacted us with the very sad news that Roger has recently passed away. Jenny and I had not previously heard that he had been ill and we were shocked and greatly saddened to hear this.
As you will know, Roger was instrumental in recruiting me to the Agha Khan University in Karachi in 1997. Later, he supported me in the role of chairman of the radiology department and when the development of postgraduate medical programs in East Africa was mooted he enthusiastically encouraged my transfer to Nairobi. The result, for me, was a significant broadening and enrichment of my professional life over a period of many years.
On a personal note, you may recall that Roger and yourself introduced Jenny and I to the possibility of exploring the Sindh and Balouchistan hinterlands and the accompanying pleasures of birdwatching in these remote places. The result of his interest and friendship was that we enjoyed many years of discovering the exotic nature of Pakistan as well as appreciating its exceptional natural beauty.
I will always remember his influence as Dean of the Medical Faculty at the Agha Khan. I have an abiding memory of him striding along the hallways and across the quadrangles: an elegant and authoritative figure much respected for his exacting nature, his insistence on academic rigour and his judicious guidance , given unreservedly and as needed, to many of the junior faculty. He was a Dean who was approachable and much appreciated.
In spite of the distance in time and space between us, and having not met with Roger for some years, I feel the loss of a good and caring senior colleague and a friendship which I will always remember with warmth and gratitude. We are thinking of you often in this difficult time.
sincerely, Jeff and Jenny Rees

To the Sutton family. George and I were so sorry to hear of your loss. We thank you for all your support when we were neighbours in Kew in the 1970s. It was good to meet Fiona and Nicky last winter. Liz, George, James, Becky and Rupert Chesman

To the Sutton family, Wendy, Nicola and Fiona
I am sorry for your loss; Roger was incredibly kind and supportive to me when I was being recruited to nephrology at UBC, and I grateful for all the support he showed me. He was a scholar and gentleman, I know you had to share him with medicine, and the colleagues there to some extent: thank you for that.
Be well, remember the smiles and the laughs
with much respect

I am sorry to hear of Dr.Roger Sutton's passing.I met dashing Dr.Sutton from 1985-1993 when he also had an outpatient clinic at Shaughnessy Hospital, formerly a veterans 'hospital & later a Provincial teaching hospital until the government closed it in Sept.1993.Dr.Sutton was part of the many wonderful doctors who interacted well with patients & staff.
I remember on his return from bird watching in Costa Rica, his delight in telling us that he witnessed a dozen, delicate humming birds fluttering around a nectar pot.
May there be a choir of your beloved birds, singing in a chorus, welcoming you to Paradise Dr. Sutton!
My condolences to wife Wendy, daughters Fiona, Nicola & families. May your own precious memories bring all of you comfort at this time.
