ROLAND, Philadelphia Artist, died Sunday, May 18, 2014, after a long illness. Survived by beloved wife, Sheila Whitelaw-Ayers; one son, Roland Ayers Jr.; 2 stepdaughters, Jill and Robin Whitelaw; one step-grand-child, Ashley and a family friend, Cynthia Norman.

My sincerest condolences to the his family . I have been a fan of his works since the 70's. His dreamscapes were my favorites. A true artist with magical imagery and a sensitive soul. I feel his work should have reached a larger audience than it did.

Goodbye, my childhood friend, who lived right across the street from me on Rittenhouse Street in Germantown and who attended the Joseph E. Hill School with me. You made us all very proud with your great artistic accomplishments. More than that, your wonderful smile and generous spirit will always stay in my memory. May you rest in peace. My condolences to
