He enjoyed a childhood around DeQuincy and did stints in the military which took him to the Far East, making an everlasting impression on him. He mostly hung around newspapers. He reported, edited, swept floors, sold ads, published, helped crank-up a couple of publications and worked with some fine folks at the Lake Charles American Press and The Advocate newspaper. Roland is survived by a wife who loved him a lot, Beverly Ann Ancona Horn; two daughters, Amy Gail Horn of Baton Rouge and Deborah LaRosa of Tallahassee, Fla.; two sons, Roland Jr. of Baton Rouge and John Westly Horn of Carlyss; stepsons, Michael Fontenot and Dr. David Sledge and his wife, Gina, of Baton Rouge, John Sledge of Baton Rouge and Charles "Chuck" Sledge and his wife, Liz, of Houston; granddaughters, Sarah Jane Sledge, Sage Carter Horn and Amber Gail Horn and Averie Marie Sledge and Grace Sledge; grandsons, Ethan David Sledge, Jacob Ray Sledge and James Sledge; brother, Readis Horn and his dear wife, Patsy, of Mena, Ark.; a number of nieces and nephews that were all his favorites; an uncle and two aunts; sisters-in-law, Norma, Catherine, Patsy, Tish and Joyce; and brothers-in-law, A.J. Lasseigne, Ronnie Gerald and Charles Ancona. Roland was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Gail Foster Horn; son; sister, Olive Ann Horn Walker; and brother-in-law, Billy Murray "Doak" Walker. Funeral service at Rabenhorst East Funeral Home on Florida Boulevard, with everyone invited, especially the many people who called him friend. Burial will be in the national cemetery on the way to St. Francisville. Roland wrote this obit and would have liked for it not to be changed hardly at all. If your name was left out, you have to remember he had brain surgery. "It's been a real show."

Mr. Roland touched the lives of so many people in a very special way. Firm words of encouragement and wisdom he always had to share. I'll missed his presence on Saturday Morning, but always I'll remember his smile and encouraging words. My family prayers are with you and yours.
