James Claude Varner

James Claude Varner 1933 - 2011 James Claude Varner, 78, of Bakersfield passed away on August 2, 2011, in Houston, Texas. Born in Westwood, California, Jim was one of the first grandchildren born into the family of James Rubin and Viola Varner, the forebears of Bakersfield's well-known Varner family. Jim proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean conflict and left the service as a Sergeant. For many years he was employed as a truck driver by Don Keith Trucking. Jim is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Steve and Brenda Varner of Houston; his daughter and son-in-law Skeet and Michael Ortega of Bakersfield; grandchildren Steve Emmons, Bakersfield; Lisa Mosley, Ohio; and Jana Weber, West Hills; and five great-grandchildren. Jim is also survived by his uncles and their families, Skeet Varner and Bill Varner, of Bakersfield, in addition to numerous cousins.
