Roman Gabriel was my first NFL hero. He was the epitome of the classic "drop back in the pocket" QB. As kids, we loved to emulate his upright, sturdy style. RIP.

Maybe it wasn´t to him, but it was to me. I was a fan from his college days through his pro years. He visited Hibriten High School, Lenoir, NC where I was a teacher. He scrimmaged with our football team, of which my son was a member. Both of us were thrilled to have met him.

Roman came to Hibriten High School, Lenoir, North Carolina, where I was a teacher. I was born a few years after Roman and was a big fan of his when he played at State and in the pros. My son, Tim, met him and Roman "scrimmaged" with the Hibriten High team. Tim said that Roman threw the ball SO hard.

1968 or so......7 years old...knew very little about football but I knew I liked the LA Rams and Roman Gabriel. So much so, that 30 years later, I bid on, and won two autographed pencil drawings of RG. Met Rich Saul in Butler Pa. and we talked about RG for hours. What an amazing career!

I can remember when I was a kid I had a job selling bouquets of flowers on the street in LA. In the mid to late 60's. A white convertible drove up to me and the driver bought a dozen carnations. Just at that moment, my boss pulled up in his van and told me that the person who bought the flowers was Roman Gabriel. I really didn't know who he was but my Dad and 2 older brothers sure did!
That's what I remember about him. I went on to be a big Rams fan and still am.

I remember watching him as a kid, I was a dolphins fan but he was a great quarterback and it stuck out to me as a kid. Thank you for helping people fall in love with the game that you were so great at. RIP!

I remember Roman as my favorite quarterback for years when I 13,14,15, and beyond. When he retired I missed watching him play and wondered where and how he was. My heart is sad.

My favorite memories of Roman was throwing to Jack Snow also Turker and Truex. The team won nine games in a row, that was 1968-1969 seasons. He made me love this team and football. God bless you Roman for instilling the love of football in all of us. Rest in peace.

Roman Gabriel was the very 1st LA Rams Quarterback that I remember seeing at about 5 years old. My uncle Frank Tamayo took me to see the Pro-Bowl at the LA COLESSIUM in 1969 the year he went 12 and 4 and played against the Vikings but lost. He also won the NFL MVP in 1969. I also recall that my uncle Ruben Jauregui invited the Rams to my cousin Paul Jauregui´s 3rd birthday party and all of the Rams were there. I recall Rosy Grier picking me up in his arms at that party and Merlin Olsen picking up my cousin Paul. I´ve been a Rams fan ever since. Roman Gabriel going long to Jack Snow was my favorite play back then as a kid in the late 60´s. Those were great memories and Roman Gabriel was a great quarterback. He will be missed. May God Bless him in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. AMEN.

I was one of those Southern California kids who wanted to be like Roman Gabriel when I grew up. And who pretended to be Roman, when we played sandlot ball!

Thanks for the memories, Roman. You were tough and talented on the field, and by all accounts a great guy in all settings.
