SALVATORI ROMANO
Age 72, of Winter Park, Fl., passed away August 19, 2010. Mr. Salvatori was born in Foggia, Italy, to the late Mario and Pia Salvatori. He is survived by Mariolina, his high school sweetheart and wife of 48 years; his two loving daughters, Pia DiSanto and Olga Salvatori-Manning; his grandchildren, Giulia, Marco, Massimo and Gian Luca, who gave him great joy; and his two sons-in-law, John DiSanto and Hon. Jeffrey Manning, who enjoyed, loved, and greatly respected him. Also survived by brothers, Adriano and Enrico Salvatori; Sisters, Maria Buzzanca and Anna Maria Bellusci; and Sister-in-law, Maria Rosaria Rizzi-Mulas. Romano Salvatori was an internationally recognized expert in both the commercial nuclear power industry and in the general power generation business. During his long and successful career with Westinghouse he had overall project responsibility for all commercial nuclear power plant construction. He led the very successful Westinghouse emergency response efforts, as requested by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, at the Three Mile Island incident site. During his career, Romano negotiated numerous major international commercial contracts in many countries around the world. He was known for his intelligence, his technical expertise, his personable leadership style and his quick wit and sense of humor. A true global player in the business world, he never forgot his fellow workers and his kind, honest approach to them. In 1991, Romano was presented with the Westinghouse's highest honor - the Order of Merit. He was recognized "for his creativity and leadership in developing the power projects operations into one of the top-performing businesses in Westinghouse; for his exceptional ability to define and solve new and complex business issues; for his creation and training of an organization that reflects his personal dedication and skills, and is attuned to managing complex logistics and for his continuing determination to make Westinghouse the Total Quality world leader in the power generation industry." In 1995, Romano became President of Nations Energy Corporation, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tucson Electric Company. His company was chartered to acquire and/or develop electric power plants worldwide. Romano was a 1962 graduate of the University of Roma, Italy with a master's degree in electrical engineering. He joined Westinghouse in 1965 and held increasingly responsible engineering and management positions in the nuclear organization. Following international assignments in Central and South America, he became deputy director of Westinghouse Trading Company In 1983. In 1988, he was named general manager of Power Generations Marketing Division and a year later, general manager, Power Generation Projects Division. Romano's dedication to Westinghouse extended to the history of the Corporation. He spent decades researching it and amassed a large collection of Westinghouse memorabilia. A lover of art, he was an avid art collector. His primary focus in life was to nurture his family, and he did so until the day he died. Visitation will be Thursday, August 26 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at Collison Family Funeral Home, Winter Park. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, August 27 at 10:30 AM at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, Winter Park. In lieu of flowers, tax deductible donations can be made in Mr. Salvatori's name to International Myeloma Foundation, 12650 Riverside Drive, Suite 206, North Hollywood, CA 91607-3421.
