Ron Linder Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Mar. 1 to Mar. 3, 2008.
Joan Linder and her sons Michael and R.J. sadly announce the loss of Ron Linder, Loving Husband and Exemplary Father. In the dash of his life, Ron was known for his quick wit, genuine smile and humble outlook on life. His passions were many. Hours were spent on the cold benches at his son’s hockey games, claiming his winnings on the golf course, perfecting their lake haven and playing with the “smartest” Airedale Terriers, Bailey and Adriana. He also carried a deep dedication to the radio broadcasting business and the family of friends it added to his life. All passions in Ron’s life were made richer when shared with his family and friends. Though his face may be unfamiliar, Ron’s smooth voice and sincere kindness greeted thousands of listeners each morning from the Lite 99.9 studio. Although many never met Ron, he touched their lives every day. Ron Linder was born March 31, 1956 to William and Helen (Anderson) in Willmar, MN. He was a 1978 graduate of Gustavus with a degree in Business. On June 7, 1980 he married Joan (Rangeloff). Ron and Joan moved to St. Cloud in 1988 where he started his first radio station, AM 1390 Super Q. His next venture, Kiss 103.7, gave listeners a window view as they broadcast live inside the Crossroads Center. He was also responsible for the launch of Wild Country 98.9. Ron began his position as morning show host on Lite 99.9 when the radio station hit the air waves in 1998 and remained until February 26, 2008. Ron is survived by his wife; sons Michael, St. Cloud and Ronald J. (R.J.), Mankato; father H. Willard Linder (Bill); brothers Steve (Nancy) of Willmar, Dave (Laurie) of Duluth, Paul (Lisa) of Eden Prairie, and sister Nancy (Gary) Alsaker of Willmar. He was preceded in death by his mother. “A Celebration of Life” will be held on Sunday, March 9th at 1:00 PM at the St. Cloud Civic Center to remember Ron who died peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, February 26, 2008 after a 5 month battle with cancer. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to the St. Cloud Area Human Society. “Ron Linder, now broadcasting on a higher frequency . . .”

A Reminiscence

YES, thou art gone! and never more
Thy sunny smile shall gladden me;
But I may pass the old church door,
And pace the floor that covers thee.

May stand upon the cold, damp stone,
And think that, frozen, lies below
The lightest heart that I have known,
The kindest I shall ever know.

Yet, though I cannot see thee more,
'Tis still a comfort to have seen;
And though thy transient life is o'er,
'Tis sweet to think that thou hast been;

To think a soul so near divine,
Within a form so angel fair,
United to a heart like thine,
Has gladdened once our humble sphere.
