Ronald Addorio Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 23, 2025.
Ronald Paul Addorio (Ron), beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2025, at the age of 75, in his Greenland, NH home following a courageous battle with brain cancer. His departure leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew his warmth, wit, and deep love for the outdoors.

Ron was born on September 29, 1949 to the late Nicholas and Josephine (Bisognani) Addorio in Portsmouth's Historic North End, and spent his early years immersed in a close-knit Italian community. During the Urban Renewal Project, the family relocated to Sheffield Road, the place Ron called home throughout the rest of his childhood. He attended St. Patrick's School, where he would meet the love of his life and future wife, Ellen (Regan). In his youth, Ron excelled in academics and sports including hockey, baseball, and golf. After graduating from Portsmouth High, he continued his education at UNH earning a BS and MS in Biology, playing JV hockey, and serving as Captain of the Golf Team.

After college, Ron had a brief career in teaching high school Biology before deciding to pursue an apprenticeship as an electrician at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. He worked for 34 years on nuclear submarines, eventually qualifying as a master electrician before retiring in 2014.

Throughout his life's journey, Ron shared a deep love and friendship with his wife of 49 years, Ellen. Married in 1976, they built a life together filled with laughter, respect, and countless happy memories. Together, they raised two children, John and Martha, instilling in them Catholic values, kindness, a strong work ethic, and a deep appreciation for helping others. Ellen was an incredible and constant source of strength and support for Ron, especially during his final years.

Ron's happy place was on the golf course- celebrating many great times and milestones at Portsmouth Country Club, where he was affectionately known as "Bit". He found his passion at age 13 starting as a caddie at PCC, learning the sport, becoming a member and placing in many of the club's tournaments over the years- most notably winning the 1984 Men's Club Championship. When Ron spoke about his time at PCC, it was clear that what mattered most to him were the friendships he built there. They formed a lifelong brotherhood-offering love, support, and encouragement through every round, both on and off the course.

When Ron wasn't golfing, he was usually fixing something-"puttering," as he liked to call it-whether it was lawnmowers, cars, or things around the house. He was naturally talented, with hands that could fix or build just about anything and a mind that loved solving problems.

Ron will be remembered for his warm and friendly disposition, quiet confidence, his selflessness, genuine soul, and incredible sense of humor. He was a devoted husband, dad, grandfather, and friend to all. He will be deeply missed.

Ron is predeceased by his parents, Nicholas and Josephine Addorio of Portsmouth, NH. He is held in the hearts of those he is survived by: his wife, Ellen Addorio of Greenland, NH; his son, John Addorio, and his wife, Jaclyn (Mullavey) Addorio, and their children, Roman and Charlotte, of Naples, FL; his daughter, Martha (Addorio) Mayo, and her husband, Chris Mayo, and their children, Teddy and Owen, of Harvard, MA; along with many close relatives.

The family is eternally grateful for the unwavering support of friends and loved ones throughout Ron's cancer journey. We extend our heartfelt thanks to his care teams at Wentworth-Douglas Hospital (Dover and Pease), Amedisys, and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston for their compassion and expertise. In lieu of flowers, optional donations can be made in Memory of Ronald Addorio to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, PO Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284-9168 [ by phone to 1-800-525-4669 or danafarber.org/give ].

In accordance with Ron's wishes, a private Catholic Mass and burial will be held at a future date.

Dear Ellen, a few months ago I noticed that the road to Ricci´s Lumber had been named Addorio Way. I knew you were good friends with the Riccis, so I wondered if the road had been named in memoriam for one of you.

This morning I looked up the obits to check and found this site.

I never met Ron, but everything you said made me think you guys had a good and loving relationship. I also know that at Dover high school you helped so many kids who had fallen between the cracks and figured Ron was the same way: the comments in this obituary confirm that.

I am really sorry, and sorry that his last disease was so long and difficult. Thank God he had you, the ex nurse as a caregiver.
Love, Michael Frandzel.

His passing is a great loss to all.
But I take solace in knowing he´s probably on the 4th tee in Heaven with Tony Loch and all the other great guys we´ve lost.

My deepest condolences to Ellen and all of Ron´s family. It has been well over 50 years since I left New Hampshire, but always remember what a wonderful guy Ron was. We sat next to each other in Algebra for two years, and Ron was very supportive of me when I changed from wearing white socks to colored ones (in a futile attempt to be a cool kid). He will be greatly missed in this world.
