Ronald D. "Dick" Batty, 94 of Oglesby went to be with our Lord December 3, 2022 at Cabin Living, Hennepin.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday in Holy Family Church, Oglesby. Burial will be In St. Vincent's Cemetery, LaSalle with full military honors conducted by the LaSalle-Oglesby Veteran's Memorial Group.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday in the Shields Funeral Chapel, Oglesby. Oglesby American Legion to meet at 3:45 in the funeral chapel.
Dick was born January 11, 1928 in LaSalle to William and Ellen (Morris) Batty. He married Dolores Bertolotti July 6, 1957 in Ottawa. She died March 18, 2020.
Dick worked for the City of Oglesby for 36 years as Superintendant of the Sewage and Street Departments.
He was in the United States Navy for 9 years, 3 years active duty and 6 years in the reserves serving on LT 931, ATA176 and ATF91from February 1946 to May 1955.
Dick was a member of the Oglesby American Legion Post 237 where he was a past Commander. He was also a member of V-378 of the 40/8, Oglesby Elks Lodge 2360, USS LST Memorial and worked with Boy Scout Troop 15. He also started the Oglesby Easter Egg Hunt with Post 237.
He is survived by a daughter Mary Ellen (John) Lopatic of Oglesby, 2 granddaughters; Meghan (Josh) Connour of Davenport and Erin (Matt) Tomsha of Oglesby, 2 great-grandchildren; Mackenzie and Gavin Connour, sister-in-law Mary (Batty) Jasper and nephews Gary and Mark Batty.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Dolores, 4 brothers and 3 sisters.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
