BERNARDO – Ronald W. "Ox" or "Judo," 63, Windber, died Nov. 13, 2009, at Memorial Medical Center. Born June 16, 1946, in Johnstown, son of the late Alfred and Rose (Olenik) Bernardo. Survived by his loving wife of 42 years, the former Barbara J. Ambrisco; children, Mark, married to the former Holly Reandeau, Cold Spring, N.Y.; Scott, married to the former Laura Deal, Johnstown; Elizabeth, wife of Edwin Akins, Atlanta, Ga.; and Veronica, wife of Nicholas Rillo, Salt Lake City, Utah; grandchildren, Anthony and Nicholas; brothers, Allan (Claudia), Mick and Barry (Paula); and sister, Patricia. After the closing of Bethlehem Steel, Ron retired, but true to his personality began working at many different occupations, including his most recent job as a clerk at local Wine and Spirit shops. He loved his job and talking to all his loyal customers. A man of many interests, Ron was an avid bowler and jogger, a softball and PIAA baseball umpire and wrestling official. Also a former assistant baseball coach at Windber High School. He loved attending local sporting events. Ron was often seen with his walking buddy, his son's golden retriever, Bogey. One of Ron's greatest joys in life was being a grandfather. "Pap" or "Pappa" will be missed very much. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland, where vigil for the deceased will be held. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Geistown, Father David S. Peles, officiating. Committal, Richland Cemetery Mausoleum.
