NEW BERN | Mr. Ronald D. Brickerd, 78, of the Stately Pines Community, passed away Saturday, February 7, 2015 after a courageous battle. A native of Prince George's County, MD, Ron entered the US Air Force at 17 and retired in 1973 after 20 years of honorable service to our country. Ron then was employed with Logistics Support Corp, where he and his family resided in Tehran, Iran; he returned to the United States and was employed with Bendix/Honeywell Corp as part of the Space Shuttle Program. After retiring from NASA, Ron and his family moved to New Bern, NC.
Never one to sit still, Ron started his lawn service company "We Do Grass"; and when he retired from that, he was employed at the Carolina Pines Fuel Market. "Mr. Ron" always greeted people with a smile, and enjoyed telling stories and joking with his customers. When he wasn't working, Ron enjoyed the views overlooking the Neuse River and RV'ing with his precious Jean.
A celebration of Ron's life will be 7 PM, Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at Praise International Church, in Havelock, NC, with Rev. Garlton George officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial, with full US Air Force Honors, will be 10 AM, Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, NC.Those wishing to offer words of hope and condolences may visit www.pollockbest.com. Ron is survived by his wife of 44 years, Jean Brubaker Brickerd; children; Kae Brickerd of MD, Delana Brown of NC, Ronald Davy Brickerd of Thailand, Shawn Brickerd of NY, Dennis Scott Ledwell, of SC, and Timothy Allen Ledwell of FL. He also leaves behind his wonderful grandchildren and great grandchildren.
