Ronald Campbell Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 27, 2026.
Dr. Ronald Gene Campbell M.D (Ron) eighty-three, passed away peacefully on Feb. 6, 2026, at home in Minnetonka, Minn., surrounded by loved ones, his cat and dog. Born in Great Falls Montana on August 12,1942., Ron earned his bachelor's degree from Montana State University in Billings Mt. He then moved to Minnesota to attend the University of Minnesota Medical School, graduating as Dr. Ronald G. Campbell M.D., he decided to go into public health. He always wanted to help others have a healthier life. He became part of the State of Minnesota Department of Maternal and Child Health for 35 years. He was an avid champion of the health of women and children. He pushed for nationwide policy change to remove lead from gasoline and paint to help lower the impact this chemical had on the development and health of children. He drove policies for women reproductive health, he volunteered at free clinics, he participated in classes to help provide training and classes to mothers on a global bases for better health and child wellness.

After retirement Ron could not sit still, a few global treks around the world but always coming back to Minnetonka Mn. Still with the itch to build a legacy he took on developing a sustainable subdivision in Minnetonka on land that he owned. The project was sunset as effects of Alzheimer's started to become apparent. This did not stop him, he pushed forward with campaigns for better community outreach on EPA, better knowledge on water safety and recycling. During this entire time, we would be walking the neighborhood with his Dog Maddi, checking in with all the neighbors, picking up as much trash as he could hold. His walks became less overtime, but he was still doing about 10k-14k steps a day, giving the care givers a challenge. He still had time to get to DQ for a Peanut Buster Parfait and a plan cone for Maddie. As things progressed, he became more reclusive but would still smile and even laugh when watching old shows like I love Lucy or Leave it to Beaver. Over the last few years all processes slowed down but being the strong Montana stock he never wanted to be fussed over. As he started to think about the exit to spend time with old friends and pets he focused on smiling, having his bright eyes and gracefully taking his last bow.

Dr. Ronald G. Campbell M.D. was the most special person on this planet. He never got mad, would go out of his way to help everyone. He will be missed so much, but being in a better place, being safe and happy is the greatest outcome.

Ron's celebration of Life will be held on Friday April 3rd, 2026, from One to Four p.m. at the Cremation Society of Minnesota Location on France Ave. in Edina Minnesota.
