Ronald "Ron" C. Faloon, 92, died peacefully on April 2, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on Aug. 25, 1930, in Howland, Maine, to Leslie Allen and Agnes Gertrude Faloon. He was the youngest of seven children. Ron graduated from Howland High School before following his future wife, Sandra Lucy (Burr) Faloon, to Hartford, Connecticut, where Ron and Sandra married and raised six children.
Ron started there as a technician in the lab at Magnuflux Corporation and rose through the ranks to become vice president in 1977. That 40-year career took his family from Connecticut to Barrington, Illinois, where he and Sandra spent 22 years as active members of the community before retiring in 2000 to Michigan City, Indiana.
A Mainer to the end, he spent time each year on Frye Island, Sebago Lake, sporting one of his many bucket hats and entertaining family and friends on "the deepest lake in Maine."
Inspired by his work as an arborist during his 20s, and having a continued love of the natural world, at 87, Ron studied for and was awarded a Master Gardener certificate from Purdue University, and he created a beautiful garden that bears his name at the entrance of his neighborhood association. His other passion was Notre Dame football, and Ron spent every autumn Saturday cheering on the Fighting Irish.
A patient and genuine man, Ron did not need to be the center of attention, unless he was telling a joke, then his wry sense of humor always stole the show.
Ron will be remembered for his integrity, generosity, kindness, fair-mindedness and quick wit. But most of all, he will be remembered for his love of family and friends. His family brought him his greatest joy and his friendships crossed generations, and all agree, "he was a great man to share a beer with."
Ron is survived by his wife of 67 years, Sandra; his children, Ronda (Rob) Chandler, Terry (Aili) Faloon, Kathleen (Tom) Murray, Brigid (Kevin) Tuley, Tracy Faloon and Megan Faloon; his grandchildren, Cole, Eden, and Reece Faloon, Emma and Maggie Chandler, Thomas and Devin Murray, Maeve and Maura Tuley, and Michaela Emerson; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews and countless friends.
Over the course of his life, Ron was a faithful member of St. Joseph, St. Anne and Notre Dame parishes. A Mass celebrating his life is planned for Aug. 26, 2023, at Notre Dame Catholic Church, Michigan City, Indiana. The Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Michigan City, Indiana, is handling arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Pine Tree Society, Bath, Maine, www.pinetree society.org and Friendship Botanic Gardens, Michigan City, Indiana, www.friendshipbotanic gardens.org in remembrance of Ron Faloon.
