Ronald Fitch Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun on Nov. 23, 2006.

FITCH _ Ronald Arthur Born November 13, 1924 in London, England, Ron passed away peacefully at home in West Vancouver on November 16, 2006. Ron came to Canada at the age of 14 as a war evacuee and settled in Edmonton. After graduation from high school, he enlisted in the RCAF as a bomber/navigator and was stationed in Britain for the balance of the war. Shortly after his return to Canada, he entered the golf business and spent time at the Edmonton Golf Club, Jasper Park Lodge, and Point Grey Golf Club before settling as Head Pro at Gleneagles in West Vancouver for 30 years. During his time as a Golf Professional, he was president of the Canadian Professional Golfers Association as well as the BCPGA and was instrumental in the junior golf programs and the business development colleges. He loved teaching golf, yet was just happy that people enjoyed the game. After his retirement, well, a bit more golf and some traveling with Donna, his wife of 49 years. A special project was successfully encouraging his youngest grandson Dylan to become an accomplished golfer. Ron will be missed by his loving wife Donna, son Graeme (Maridee) and daughter Sue (Doug) Cappadocia, grandsons Tyler Burslem and Dylan Cappadocia; brother Ken (Joan) and sister Sylvia (Ken) Young, and nieces in England, as well as an extended family and many friends. A warm thanks to the Heart Function Clinic at St. Paul's Hospital for helping make his visits as comfortable as possible. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice. No service by request. "That's all well and good, but where's the pie?"
