Ronald Dean Franks, 77, of Shelby, NC went to be with his heavenly Father on August 29, 2022 at his home surrounded by family. Ron was born on February 6, 1945 in White County, TN.
Ron joined the army in 1962 and completed training at Fort Jackson. He was active duty until 1965. Ron married the love of his life, Judy Hamrick, on July 3, 1965, and they raised two daughters together. He was a beloved husband, father, and Pawpaw.
Ron worked in textiles for much of his adult life, where he quickly advanced into a managerial position. He retired from Belmont Dyers as plant manager. After retirement he enjoyed volunteering at the Life Enrichment Center.
Ron was a member of Double Springs Baptist Church, where he enjoyed attending Sunday School and fellowshipping with close friends. He took joy in spending time with his family and attending sporting events, especially football games and NASCAR races.
Ron is survived by his wife, Judith Hamrick Franks, of Shelby; sister, Sue Lewis (husband, Robert) of McMinnville, TN; daughters, Tammy Brooks (husband, Tony) of Shelby, and Tiffany Stewart (husband, Tim) of Mt. Holly; grandchildren, Tyler Brooks (wife, Kali) of Shelby, Olivia Brooks (fiancé, Justin) of Virginia, Ivan Stewart (fiancé, Ashley) of Mt. Holly, Eli Brooks of Shelby, and Max Stewart of Mt. Holly; brother-in-law, Paul Reed, of Marshall; sister-in-law, Pat Starley (husband, Cecil) of Georgia; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Doughty Lee Franks and Mattie Luna Franks; siblings, Martha Ralston, Rilda Hudson, Elise Haston, Jimmy Dale Franks, and Terry Franks.
To honor the life of Mr. Ronald Dean Franks a graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 3, 2022 at 11:00 a.m., in the cemetery of Double Springs Baptist Church. The family will greet guest following the service.
There’s nothing that Ron wanted more than to be a great-grandfather, so we ask that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the adoption fund for his grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Tyler & Kali Brooks. brooksadopt.myshopify.com or 1520 W Cabaniss Rd, Shelby, NC 28150.

This is a little late as I just found out 2 days ago that my high school friend had passed away. We were to go into the Army together but Ronald broke his leg and couldn't go with me. My belated sympathy to the family.
