Ronald Hagar Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 4, 2025.
Ronald B. Hagar, affectionately known as "Ron," was found passed away on January 5, 2025, at the age of 73, after his final journey during the Winter Solstice of 2024. Born on April 15, 1951, in Fort Belvoir, Virginia, the son of Lt. Col. Ret. Bailey Warren Hagar and Mary Cage Hagar, both of whom preceded him in death.

Ron was also preceded in death by his wife of 22 years, Cheryl Elaine Babers Hagar (d. 2023); brother-in-law, Tarry K. Lapoint (d.2016); along with several aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is survived by his three sons: David Hagar, Abrahm Hagar, and Benjamin Hagar; their mother, Mamie B. Farley; brother Rick Hagar and wife Debbie; sister Karen Lapoint; nieces Michelle Lapoint and Joy Hagar; nephews Seth and Mark Hagar; and grandchildren Laykin Carr and David Hagar Jr.

Ron retired from Libbey Glass where he was employed almost 30 years and served as union Treasurer and President. He and Cheryl moved to Waco, TX to care for his mother, Mary. Soon after his mother's passing in 2013 they returned to NW Louisiana where he split his time between Shreveport and Saline. Under Cheryl's close guidance, his time in Saline mostly consisted of restoring hundreds of acres of Louisiana timberland back to its natural state of lush native grasses and towering long leaf pine trees, a dream of Cheryl's that was shared with him when they met and became a project that would endure through the rest of their lives. When he wasn't amongst the trees, he spent time serving as Chairman for the Camp Minden Citizens Advisory Group that successfully fought for an environmentally safe solution to destroy millions of pounds of illegally stockpiled munitions at Camp Minden. He and the group then continued their push for a total cleanup of the former Army ammunition site. He was also involved in the North Louisiana for Climate Justice activist group protesting the Bayou Bridge Pipeline that was planned to cross state wetlands.

Ron was passionate about his pursuit of spiritual enlightenment. He studied many different religions and attended many different churches over the course of his life, but concentrated mostly on Taoism and Christianity. His quest for enlightenment was fueled by his belief in the value of diversity and the idea that different religions are just different ways of the universe expressing itself. Ron did not fear death; he looked forward to peace he would find after "becoming one with the universe" once again.

Ron's presence touched many lives, leaving behind cherished memories for those who knew him. His legacy will live on through the love he shared with family and friends. May his memory bring comfort to all who mourn his passing.

A memorial service to celebrate Ron's life will be held at All Souls Unitarian Church, 9449 Ellerbe Rd, Shreveport, LA. March 22, 2025 at 11:00 a.m.

We ask that, in lieu of flowers, family and friends consider donating to fund "Ron's Last Project - Cemetery Restoration", the restoration of the Babers Cemetery.

I will cherish my friendship with Ron and Cheryl for all of my life.. He was such a good man and friend. We were on the Camp Minden CAG together for 8 long years and he was a true Leader of our group and fought for my community and all surrounding communities for clean air and no more disposal of waste munitions . I loved that he loved nature and his wife and family. He was proud of his family and friends. May God Bless and watch over each of
You during your time of grief. Ron will surely be missed by many.
